Thames Locks, Richmond, a photo from London, England

Photographer's Note

Dear friends,
presented here is one of a series of exposures I took of the Thames locks at Richmond last week.

On this side, immediately behind the locks, we are downstream of the Thames - a relatively quiet area of this famous river.
On the other side of the locks, a step lower in elevation the water was very fast flowing on this night as I took these pictures. I posted a scene from the other side of the locks (taken from the same bank) here.

For some reasonable distance private homes and other buildings flank the river in this area as well as boat dwellings, etc.
There are pathways on both banks on the river here - very useful to shoot this and other scenes from.
A couple of hundred meters away are the Twickenham Road and railway Bridges.

Beautiful night scenery with correct exposure which yields to nice tones, and the reflections on the water contributing to the atmosphere.

Dear Daniel,
I stayed in Richmond for more than a month and never noticed the Thames locks! Maybe it's because it looks much better in the evening. As usual, it is a great blue hour shot. Did you use one of those filters that give starlight effect? Or did you do it on photoshop? Whatever it is, the result is magical.Congrats.

This place takes me back to my childhood as I used to live very near this bridge! I like the starry effects of the lights on the bridge - it's surprising you achieved this at f5 - and the overall exposure is pleasing. Nice shot of a familiar scene.

I like the twilight atmosphere!
Nor entirely night, but still with the night mood present...
Effective point of view gives a fine composition with good lines, a well balanced image with attractive colours!
