Photographer's Note
this was taken just as the sun rose above the horizon on the county down coast, between the village of killough and st. john's point.
in the foreground the layers of the sedimentary rock, shale, have been displaced on their side, fractured and eroded, and now make for a fascinating, seemingly ageless coastline.

Hello Brian,
This is an awesome spectacle. The colours and the rocks are very dramatic. A perfect composition and great use of a slow shutter speed and tripod. A great image and a favourite for me.

Hello Brian,
this is an amazing sunrise. A wonderful composition of spectacular natural elements captured with exquisite sharpness and depth. The textures are so real and there's an almost 3D effect on the rocks of the foreground. I love the side light that caresses the rocks and the contrasts it creates. I'm very impressed by and love the effect of the colours gradually turning into different hues on the sky and on the sea. A great photo, congratulations and thank you!
All the best,
Ourania

Hello Brian,
This is another of your wonderful photographs where hard work and effort have paid off. Pictures such as this don't just happen by jumping out of the car and taking a few shots: this picture has taken an early start to the day for one thing, but also planning as the light appeared across those lovely foreground rocks.
Your long exposure has given the sea a lovely appearance, its blues contrasting with the red glow of the low sun illuminating the rocks. A gorgeous sky tops it all off beautifully.
Fabulous!
Have a Great Sunday,
John.
P.S. On a slightly different note, you might have noticed that John Farnan (weetrees) has been writing on the forum about his disgust at having had some of his TE pictures placed on a website called "Pinterest", so much so that he has actually now removed all his pictures from TE.
I had never actually heard of Pinterest before but I see that there is a button for it on the TE pages. So I decided to have a look and this picture was on the first page I looked at - I recognised it and I am sure you will too.
As far as I can tell from the discussions on the forum, no-one makes money from the pictures on that site but I thought I should let you know. Perhaps it constitutes breach of copyright, I don't know.

Hi Brian
as you would say...'what a cracking scene'!
that HAS to be a cultural thing isn't it!
I find that australians use that term as well...interesting.
speaking of Ausie's - i'm sure Lisa will love this when she see's it.
excellent sharpness of the stones in the fg, and the 3 sec exposure created just enough silky smooth effect too.
lovely colors, wouldn't change a thing here!
cheers

Ciao Brian,
una composizione bellissima nella quale usi le rocce per introdurre un paesaggio marino fantastico.
Molto bella la luce, credo serale, che fornisce una colorazione molto calda all'orizzonte. Complimenti.
Un caro saluto.

Hi Brian
You've look for a good POV, installed your tripod to get a wide DOF and blur the waves and waited for the last sun ray to enlighten the rocks. Superb sunset sweet colors!
Good job!

Good Morning Brian,
I'm so glad I looked you up or I would have missed this!
It is one of those shots that you just have to scrutinise! The colours are surprising with their range of red and purple hues and make the whole scene feel like something from a space movie; and yet, they are utterly compelling
I love how the sharp rocks lead out to this strange world where your slow shutter speed has created a cauldron-like effect.
Excellent!
Have a lovely w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello Brian
Missed this one, and it's superb too! Splendid warm cold colour contrasts between the orange pink red & blue colours. I like the repetitive patterns of the rock strata jutting up, too. Good sharpness & nice motion blur of the water. Excellent shadow detail & exposure. Tfs!

Hi Brian
Ar beautiful beachscape. The sky colours and effect of the water is so mesmerising, and the rocks are excellent inclusion providing excellent lead into the pict. Wonderful atmosphere, good exposure controlled with nice light management. The tone of the sky here is most attractive with wonderful warm red to pinkish
Generally a very nice image indeed with super colour. Great shot my friend!
