Photographer's Note
We found these ruins on the side of a road on Mull. If you look carefully, there are many old ruins such as these throughout the highlands. This is likely a typical example of a home left following the Highland Clearances.
Following the Jacobite rebellions of the mid 18th century, the clansmen returned to their homes. However, the chiefs were tempted by profits made in sheep farming. The clansmen were no longer useful as soldiers and thus they, along with their families, were evicted to make way for flocks of sheep. Many of these people emigrated to North America, Australia and New Zealand.

Nice shot in the black and white mode. Moody environment with the water on the left.

Hi Donald,
I relate to this image because I've seen so many of them during my 19 years in the Scotland. I like it because, as in so many good photographs, it's the simplicity of the shot which makes it special. The ruin is well positioned with the loch in the background. Having it it B&W gives it great atmosphere. A fine capture Donald, well seen.
Regards
Stephen
