Mackintosh Lighthouse, a photo from Glasgow, Scotland

Photographer's Note

You may assume from the title that this photo is a dedication for Craig Macintosh, one of our favourite TE members. Truth to be told, Charles Rennie Mackintosh is the most famous Glasgow architect, and his name is spelled differently from our friend, Craig. Mackintosh is for Glasgow what Gaudi is for Barcelona. Sadly, I didn稚 explore too many of his works, having been focused on the classic structures but there are people coming here just to see his architecture. This picture presents the very first of the works done by Mackintosh in Glasgow. It is called 典he Lighthouse�, and I think it does not resemble the typical Mackintosh style at all. It houses Scotland's Centre for Design and Architecture, opened in 1999. As Wikipedia states, 鍍he Lighthouse is the renamed conversion of the former offices of the Glasgow Herald newspaper. Completed in 1895, it was designed by Mackintosh.�

This photo was taken from the roof of a multi storey car park which is across the road from the Lighthouse.

A slight correction to your map co-ordinates, it is located at 55.85972,-4.25535, Mariusz, just my two-cents contribution.
Wonderul old tower, now closed to the visiting crowds, and very difficult to take a decent street view picture. Rightly taken from a parking rooftop.

Hello Mariusz, I have a feeling that we actually went inside this building on our C.R.Mackintosh holiday/tour.
A very good shot, a good idea to take advantage of your position in the car park so as to obtain this view.

Ciao Mariusz,surely there is no Gollini architect in Glasgow, so I was not offended by you dedicated the photo to Craig ... ahahha .. the style in fact does not fully represent the style of Scottish Gaudi, one of the first bit decadent but I see work in progress, perfect capture as always. I remember seeing some of Mackintosh's work when I was in Glasgow. This is a really nice view of the architecture here with lots of fine details. I like the reddish stone in front of the blue sky.

Kształ wiezyczki faktycznie przypomina latarnie morska ale czy kiedykolwiek taka funkcje pełnił? chyba zbyt daleko od morza.
Ciekawa notka o glownym architekcie Glasgow, moze kiedys podaze jego sladami.
Z Grecji wychodzi mi, ze tylko jezdzilem :) Wstawilem juz pojedyncze zdjecia z 10 regionow/prowincji czy jak to zwa a jeszcze kilka zostało. Swoja droga mieli jakies zmiany administracyjne dziesięć lat temu czego nie TE nie uwzglednia i jest niezły bałagan z lokalizacja poszczegolnych miast na TE - pewnie nie tylko w tym kraju

I saw so many samples of architecture in this area, but I guess I didn't see this building. I remember some carvings in the fa軋des and some special buildings near this area. I guess I could to walk during days exploring glasgow and I would ever find something special for photos.
