Photographer's Note
It had snowed through the night, but the roads were clear and the sun was trying to get out, so we decided to walk through Glen Tilt. We were staying in Blair Atholl, where Blair Castle is located, the headquarters of the Atholl Estates of which Glen Tilt is a part. (Glen = valley) Glen Tilt is a narrow glen and the walk goes up one side of the river and back down on the other side. It is a 10 mile walk (16km), but it can be shortened to 6 miles (9.5km). We kept our options open until we reached the point of no return at Gilbert痴 Bridge. The weather was still fine so we decided to walk the full 10 miles and crossed the river over Gow痴 bridge. We did run into a blizzard about 3 miles before the end.
This shot was taken on the way back, but looking back the way we had come. The sun was on those mountains all the way, although where we were walking was in and out of shade. This clear track was unusual as most of the way was through either pasture, forest or rough ground. You値l see what I mean if you look in the WS.

Hello Kath,
A lovely shot of this winter landscape, which takes advantage of the gently curving road to bring perspective. The palish winter sky together with the snow makes for a lovely atmosphere.

Good morning, Kath.
It's a lovely shot, indeed. A peaceful landscape, with all the right accents in the right places. I've been looking at it for several minutes now and I got the distinct feeling it's one of those pictures that grow on you the more you look at them. There's obviously a very tangible life philosophy behind your work, which reflects in it and makes it extremely different from Average Excellent. I like that, I like something that widely transcends technicals, the rule of thirds, the elements in foreground and background, the whole darn blablabla... Have a wonderful day, it looks like November here in Amsterdam... See ya soon,
Fulvio.

Hi, Kath. The track is a good lead into the picture towards the snow-clad mountains of the background. The mountains stand well out against the sky and there is a good contrast between the two sides of the valley. A good diagonal line comes down from the right with a few trees standing out against the snow.
Have a nice day,

Hi Kath.
It must be quite a difficult exposure with so much snow, but you have managed to capture the undulations and shadows on the slope very well. The road makes a pleasing lead-in at the bottom of the picture, and the pale green of the grass and blue of the sky combine well with the white of the snow and clouds. The fence line adds a rustic touch to this lovely scene.

Andrew

a lovely photo, I especially like the sun highlighting the slope on the left, as well as illuminating the snows above against a typical Scottish winter sky.
I have biked through GlenTilt and down into Glen Feshie, but as your workshop shows it would be much more difficult this weather.

Hi Kath,
Imagine if you had real winters there this would probably be a ski center without hope of such serenity. Snowfields look just great and bit of grass visible adds contrast. You were there exactly at the right time. Such light and snow combination never lasts long.

Hi, Kath -
We seem to be getting a collection of snow photos in the last few days!
It's a nice shot; what intrigues me here are the road leading to the fence, and the touch of warm light amid the shadows, perhaps hinting at spring? Finally?

Hello Kath,
The contrast of luminosity and colors between such white areas because of the snow, and the tones of the vegetation and of the sky, gives many life and strength to the image.
I like this so nice effect, and also the direct perspective of the road towards the mountain in background.
Nice composition.
Best wishes,
Josep

hi Kath,
this looks like a cake sprinkled with powder shugar :) or I'm simply trying to pretend this is NOT snow, that the spring IS coming.
but back to the photo - I like a lot how the splash of colour on the left livens up the scene, but I have to say that even though the road feels very inviting and works great to lead the eye towards the mountains, I think I'll wait for warmer days to follow that road :)
best,
Kristine

Hi Kath,
I like it very much. You made a very pleasant compo with all those smooth undulating lines of the landscape, which give a strong 3D feeling, enhanced by the road going in from the FG. The low clouds and their shadows are also lovely. I like also the subtle yellow hue on the slopes of the BG.
Don't get upset with this, probably I wouldn't notice it if I wasn't so used to get in much trouble in my exposure blendings: that slight dark halo on the slopes may be natural, but it was made more pronounced by the selective PP of the FG, right?
I like the WS also, not only for making the presentation clearer. I bet that Ricardo would prefer it over the main post because of the presence of the person (Rob, right?).
In my last trip to Spain my son came up with a funny name for round tops covered with smooth snow like these are: cavacas, a kind of biscuit that is covered with a solid paste made of egg white and sugar. :D
Regards, Jos.

HI Kath,
Wow that impresses me a lot, how comes YOU went out in the snow to take pictures, is this something psys refer to as addiction ? ;-)))
At least this gave you the opportunity to notice how well the snow helps rising the winter highlights as we see on your image, it offers convenient contrast for the depth setting narrow road as well. Well done, so ready to book your winter holiday in Norway ?
Have a nice day JY

Hi Kath,
What a beautiful palate of natural colors, blue sky, snowy clouds & mountains and even a bit of autumn gold highlighted by the sun, all captured with great clarity. The framing is also lovely with the curve of the road disappearing around the hillside and the steep angle of the intersecting hill.

A blue sky snowy day is considered perfect for skiing; but it works out even better for photography. This photo shows the steepness much better than the WS, although it was nice to see Rob - I sure couldn't keep up with him!!

Hello Kath,
What I particularly like in this image is the V-shape created by the facing hills, with one side the south 傭athed in brilliant sunlight, and the snow having melted; the other side the north still still shrouded in snow. It is evocative of the North and South sides of a tree, with lichen grown in the north. As for that distance, 10 miles, you are a serious hiker!
Warm regards, Kath.

Hello Kath -
It looks like a miserable get away for the two of you. I am cold just looking at it. A very nice image showing us just what Scotland be like in the winter. It is no wonder my ancestor's left the Highland for America. But, where did they settle - Nebraska! Cold like the Highlands. Anyway, well done and presented. Hi Kath,
The use of the road as a leading line here adds depth to this very fine picture. The diagonal line of the slope down to the trees makes another important part of this composition. Indeed a very beautiful scenery, it would be very nice to have a long hike here!

Hello Kath
With so much of snow & not so clear sky, exposure can be a bit of a proble,..there's a hint of OE here, especially on the BG peaks...I may be wrong though! Interesting to see the slope on the right devoid of snow & still in pale shades of green! Good winterscape & as always a good note (I've read it :-)).
