Nice action shot, Will. Do you yourself race? These shots are a definite theme of yours. Good sense here of the conditions and the pitch of the boat as the waves smack up against it. It's clear the crew are experienced - standing around as though the floor they're on isn't at a 20 degree angle!

hi Will
Splendid sailing boat in action. One should be mad to sail around the world solo, but i think it's one of the last aventures still existing..... but you need a big amount of money, and as you say, if you don't start, what a mess!
We feel the power of this boat by looking at the wave.
Cheers

Hi Will,
Damn! I've just written a long critique of this picture, pressed the button and Wham - the whole lot disappeared to somewhere beyond Andromeda and now I have to try to compose it all over again. That sort of thing seems to happen all too often with this site. Or is it just me?
Anyway, Will, you have given us a very interesting and very informative note, particularly about this very impressive craft - and facts which I find very much more interesting than details about space rockets and suchlike.
A couple of years ago when on holiday, I read two books by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first about his solo circumnavigation of the globe in 1968/69 at the age of 29 and the second about his same trip in 2007 at the age of 68. What I found fascinating was to compare in the two books not only his different experiences but also to compare his different thoughts and mind-sets at these two differing ages. Wonderful books which I am sure you will have read yourself.
However, this photograph, more than very many others here, demonstrates the true skill of a very experienced photographer. Firstly, I presume that this picture was taken from another boat, so that makes taking the picture so very much more difficult. Secondly, I see from your data that your lens does not have IS - another added difficulty in producing a steady picture at 200mm focal length. Thirdly, you have caught the boat at exactly the right moment in time as it is heeling over and turning - we can see all the important details in this lovely craft as well as her crew. And fourthly, you have composed and cropped this image very thoughtfully too - we don't need to see the full extent of the mast and sails of this boat (and they would be enormous and make the hull appear tiny in the picture) to be able to appreciate this lovely art form - all we need to see is in this fabulous picture.
Lovely light, fine colours, perfect exposure and stunning details and clarity.
A wonderful photograph and, as I said before, a true measure of photographic skills!
Fabulous!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. I'm now going to copy this before I click that damn button - just in case this ends disappearing into the ether too.

Hello Will,
This is a spectacular shot taken from a very good POV. You were just lucky that you got there! We do not see every day such images. Congratulations!
All the best!

Hello Will,
Fabulous action shot, with sailboat Artemis. It's reminiscent of some of the photos in a National Geographic Photography Seminar in Washington that I attended last Sunday. I perused the photos in your website, and will visit it again. You are exceptionally versatile in your interests, but consistent in the high quality.
Warm regards, Will,
Bulent
