Photographer's Note
Another picture from my lovely meeting with Lisa (delpeoples) ten days ago, this time on my way back home in the evening through the spectacular scenery of Glen Coe.
Thankfully, around 8 p.m. the road was quiet and I took the opportunity to stop a few times and look back - here the setting sun seen over the imposing summit of Buachaille Etive Mor while the A82 road through the glen is seen on the right.
Luckily we were able to meet up again with Lisa a few days later in Glasgow and Lanark.
ISO 100, 1/100 sec at f/8, focal length 32mm.

Hello John
Scotland looks beautiful. I will have to go back to the UK one of these days. There is a lot more to see than just London. The pool at left adds mood and the snow-capped mountains make a wonderful backdrop. Tfs!

Hello John,
A deliciously moody light for this beautiful landscape composition. Perfectly exposed with lovely warm colours and a superb depth. I like the presence of the row of stones in the foreground and the sight of the approaching car with its headlights blazing.

Hello John,The colours captured here, remind me very much of Landseer and 'Monarch of the Glen'!
So where is the stag? Only joking!
A lovely shot that epitomizes the Highlands of Scotland.
Fantastic lighting with the sun's rays breaking behind the clouds.
Excellent sharp quality.
You are quite correct about my timing at the Barbican, all three pictures were taken in a very short space of time.
Best wishes Jean.

Oooo John, what a landscape, and what light. I do hope this was as you saw it, although I suspect the sky at least has had a little help from P'shop. The moorland in the fore- to mid-ground is beautifully lit, while the gloomy mountains look suitably forbidding and austere. Very nice work.

Will

Hi John
Lisa brought my next wishes from Ireland worth her! What an epic place to pay a visit to, that lights in the sky us magnificent and promises to being war and doom. I love it. It seems even more so that the foreground is so delicate, both in how is lit and the plants, it seems ripe perfect to balance the sky. Very nicely done!
Cheers

Hello John,
It always pays to look back. Places you have just passed may give you pleasant surprises when seen from the other direction. I always try to remind myself that when walking down the streets of unknown cities. This must have been a beautiful and rather wild looking scenery coming from any direction, but possibly you didn't see those clouds and that mountain in the same way before you stopped the car. You did a good job with the relatively little post-processing.
I read your comments to Will about deliberately underexposing every photo slightly. I used to do that myself in the days when I handled such things manually. Those slides used to look good when projected onto a white screen, but sometimes I have found scanning them a bit complicated. Now I just leave all that to my simple digital camera, which sometimes seems smarter than me.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello John,
I have tried to write this critique on several occasions and just lost everything as the keyboard froze!
This is one of the most most beautiful views that I have seen of Glen Coe.
You have followed a most important rule of photography, to look back, where the view can be unbelievably breathtaking, as in this case.
I read your note to Will and can see nothing wrong with improving the lighting as it makes the photograph better and seeing the photograph becomes a more pleasing experience for viewers.
The burn and rocks anchor the f/g before the wild moorland grasses take over. But it is the light over the hills which makes this so memorable. I love how it gives golden shafts of sunlight to contrast with the gathering gloom on the slopes.
A beautiful, atmospheric shot.
A real credit to you as a photographer.
Have a great day,
Bev :-)

Hello John,
A beautiful and moody picture that proves the beauty of the Scottish landscape once more.
Everything in this picture is right: The lightning, the sharpness, the composition. Even the road on the right side is a perfect detail that gives a human touch to the scene.

Hello John,
the landscape looks absolutely fascinating at this hour, with all the fine effects produced by the light and the clouds. You managed to capture a great range of effects, the teasing hide and seek of the light and the sweeping shadows. You also ensured great sense of depth and the tiny car in the distance adds a story and scale. The textures and the colours are wonderfully defined everywhere. Such a rewarding sight. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,
Ourania

Bonjour John
What a gorgeous golden light you've got, the contrast is awesome between the yellow flat area and the grey mountains, the ray of light peering through the clouds is almost divine, and the little pond at left is equilibrated by the turn of the road, the front lights of the car still taking our attention in this deserted area.
hats off

Hi John
Another beauty shot from you on this mini journey.
It has a little bit of that HDR type of feel and look to it which I like.
the best area has to be the little rays of light streaming through and downward to the base of the mountains. And I like how you placed that horizon line around the 1/3 mark. The clouds are well caped off near the top and the road to the right puts everything into perspective.
whats not to like here my friend??? beautiful rustic landscape.
cheers

Hi John,
I thought you are going to Ireland but it was Lisa who came to Scotland!
In any case this spot looks really like a worth even a long and inconvenient trip. The final result is stunning! I am so impressed! The sun looks lovely passing through the clouds. The clouds are so attractive! Fragment of the road allows to feel the depth of the scene. We can also still see some snow on the mountains!
Spectacular light and beautiful spot selected for the sunset.
Excellent work!

Hi John,
The road is sending my eyes toward the mountains which is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the scenery. The sunset is giving nice colorsto the sky and to the fields. Have a nice day.

Hello John
Lovely evening light - one of those "I must pull over and take a shot of this" moments I guess.
Good use of the stones in the FG and the road with a car in the far distance that draws your eye to it. Well composed image.
I have driven along that road myself, though the light was nothing like this. It left me with the feeling that I was on a vast, almost lunar landscape where people and places were few and far between. it was the beginning of a slow realisation about what they mean when they say Scotland is a "big country". This image reminds me of that.
Have a good evening.
Cheers
Mike
