Photographer's Note
I remain in Ludlow in the summer of 1966. It was, and probably still is, a charming small town in Shropshire in the western English Midlands, near the Welsh border.
This view shows Ludlow from the southern bank of the river Teme, which floats on a curve around the town somewhere down in the valley beneath the shrubs. The most outstanding features of the town are both seen here: the ruins of the 11th century castle and the tower of the Anglican parish church from about the same time but rebuilt in the 12th century.
Here is a larger version.
Two WS photos were taken inside the castle. In one of them I aimed my camera towards the countryside, in the other I included the town center.
I will post one more photo (and one or two WS) from Ludlow before I move a short distance.

Hello Gert,
These historic tours are a delightful journey into the past. I am amazed at the details that you have in your diaries, as well as the photographic details. You were already well disciplined in keeping a comprehensive diary as a travelling teenager.
Your b&w format already creates a sense of age.
The f/g ferns, in your main photograph, and the number of trees, suggest a very rural environment, which is perfectly true.
I particularly like the w/s from the castle walls which include a close glimpse of the wall. There is an excellent sense of the height to the courtyard below (the scene, I think, of the lonely spectator, filmed so many years later).
So much better to appreciate in the large format!
Thanks for sharing this,
Bev :-)

Witaj Gert!
Those were the times, you bring back memories of how we started creating black and white photography.
Memories left.
It was magic that remained to this day!
Excellent picture, wonderful contrast.
Very well done.
Nice day.

Hello Gert,
Three beautiful nostalgic photos from 1966 when black and white were still in fashion.
Often also because of the possibilities to develop and print the film yourself. I enjoyed that work, but nowadays the computer offers much more possibilities.
In this series I do miss colour. Landscape panoramas lose a lot of expression in black and white, but still give an authentic memory of the past.
Excellent presentation
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Dear Gert,
All three photos are nice postcards with fair exposure and realization. Too bad you were not using Kodachrome at that time, the green fauna would have looked nice on this photo. What about colouring them? You are retired, must have a lot of time! :-P
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi Gert,
The wideness of the city is creating depth. The trees are framing well the buildings. The point of view is showing the details of the trees and of the buildings. Have a nice day.

Wow, 1966 that's from even before The Beatles released their Revolver album. I'm humbled...
Terrific oldie shot again, Gert. I suspect nothing much has changed there. I like the miniature houses near the frown and the big ferns at the bottom of the frame.
Congratulations & hearty greeting

Hello Gert, I am enjoying this trip back to 1966.
Three delightful pictures. This shot includes so much, and the quality is excellent.
The first buildings we see just after the ferns appear to me like a miniature village, they seem so small! I like that the church tower breaks the line of the horizon, which then leads my eyes towards the distant hills.
Keep them coming!
Kind regards,
Jean

Hi Gert
you know those toy train sets, those large ones that fit on really big tables...thats what this looks like haha...especially the homes down in that lower portion of the frame. are you sure this wasn't a toy train setup on a table?, where's the train? :) and of course the church tower has to dominate the skyline...what else is new. Funny how the law required that back in the day, yet they say all people are equal...hmmmmm. anyways. My favourite shot is the WS #2, but they all have something interesting to offer.
my goodness, you took these photos 9 years before I was born! cheers

Hej Gert,
Det her ser s engelsk ud, is誡 p grund af det typiske kirket蚌n med ogs husene blandt tr詁r ser meget engelsk ud. Der er ogs et smukt og imponerende slot p venstra h蚣d. Jeg kan godt lide kontrasten mellem de lyse og mrkere dele.

Hello Gert, the photo shows a calm little town in the countryside where the main attractions consist in the castle in ruins and the Parish church. The place is surrounded by hills as well as by a thick vegetation. The church tower can be spotted from a distance. Good image quality, another value archive, regards.

Hello Gert,
There's something that is magical about B&W film, converting color photos to B&W doesn't quite do the trick. 👍🏻👍🏻

PS. We had a very lame reason for not eating the pea soup, we didn't want to carry those bowls around. I wanted my hands free to click away.

Hello Gert,
Good tonal range and sharpness in this superb elevated view of the charming rural English village. The fg ferns make a nice border and frame as well as adding depth and layering to the scene. The stone tower of the Anglican church adds a fine focal point. Tfs!

Good evening Gert,
I am pretty sure this sight had not change much since taken long ago, just missing the green and the red roof tiles of the small houses.
An excellent view, the church tower spears shown immaculately-sharp against the sky.

Hi Gert.
Splendid panorama in B&W, which gives us a timeless vision of this beautiful place, where its tower and castle stand out, a village that looks charming with its single-family houses and all very wooded.
Good perspective of the image, very nice to look at.
Sharpness and luminosity are captured effectively.
Very good composition, great presentation.
Have a good weekend.
Warm greetings.
Luis.

Hi Gert
I've never been to Ludlow, so can't comment on whether it changed or not (you actually made me realise how many places in England I have never seen...). It looks like a really small town here, with all the bracken in the foreground, which makes it feel as if you were standing at the edge of a forest. I like the small houses in the middle distance and the town looks really nice on the background of the distant hills.
Best wishes
Kasia
Ps. Thank you for your kind comments on my "pink" photo. :-)
