Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
Although the snowy weather has turned to warmer rain, I though I would just share this photograph with you before we move on.
I like this view because the strong line of the wooden fencing is easy to follow and, in some way, reminds me of railway lines, though we have never had a railway in the village.
The farm, in the distance, is called Peter Laithe. We have many local farms with the word 'Laithe' included in their titles.
According to the etymological dictionary, 'Laithe' is derived from the old Norse word 'lada' or 'lade', meaning barn. This would suggest that the Norse invaders were present in this area, many centuries ago.
The name words in the north of England are a testimony to the huge influence that the Vikings had in this part of the country.
Have a lovely day, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
It's still 'lada' in modern Swedish. (I guess I've said that before).
It's a pretty view and as usual elegantly composed with fine depth, well used light and beautiful colours.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,
The fence is giving dynamism to the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the farm house and of the fence. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

An excellent take, Beverley, three are few strong diagonal lines "dalling" to right side of the picture, gave extra depth to the composition and with the shadows mingling that is one beautiful photo.
Fine clear shot, my cong.s,
Ike

Hello Bev,
I am very happy that in Flemish Belgium the winter is over.
Cold is not my best friend, I like the sun.
Your winter picture is absolutely nice to look at.
Nice made in three parts, with the fence as landmark
Also the hill and house are a nice addition.
But the blue winter sky cares for soft contrast.
Very well done, TFS.
Kindest regards,
John.

Hi Bev,
So lovely winter weather has left your neighbourhood. This is a good pair to the earlier upload from almost the same place. But from the other side of the fence, which makes nice shadows on the field. Good note about local history.

Hello Beverley,
Cool to learn about the Viking origin of this word. It is a beautiful winter landscape and the fence makes a very strong diagonal through the middle of the composition and it also adds a nice play of light and shadow. The tree is well included at right also.

Hello Beverley,
In Dutch/Flemish and German the word for barn doesn't resemble the Scandinavian words at all.
You show us again a picture that makes us feel the cold.
But the clarity and brightness of the picture are really beautiful.
To be honest, I don't really like the cold, but I do like sunny days a lot and I take the lower temperature with it.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev
From Greece over to Spain and on to to England and everywhere in between the snow photos are flowing. Another good one of a snow covered rural scene.

Hi Beverley
Frozen snow and sunshine combination create pristine conditions here! A beautiful photo and write up, if we had that fall of snow here in SG, I think the country would be at a standstill for months. What a great shot, the dynamic pov, shade & shadows and lots of detail to stimulate the senses, Congrats.
Best regards

Hello Bev, Strange that you were not on the road but in the field, it seems so anyway. Lovely hill, I like the view of this round leafless tree.
We still have snow and frost. Quite a long time by now.

Hi Bev,
we don't have snow neither. Even the huge balls which constituted the snowman have melted yesterday. It is nearly a spring.
Very nice composition here with the fence making a nice pattern and leading the eye to the lovely tree.
The blue sky is so photogenic!
We have a lot of references to the Viking or other ancient past in the local names as well. I was quite surprised to discover that.
Very well done,
M

Hi Bev.
Interesting note to place what we see in the image, the wooden fence gives a good perspective to the composition, the gentle slope of the land on the other side of it gives a curious effect, the farm building above, this large tree to the fine and the remains, are all elements that complement each other very well for the success of the image.
Wonderful colors, soft hues, excellent sharpness and splendid light.
Very well done. I like it a lot.
Have a nice day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Bev,
what a perfect winter capture, including an interesting note about Norse influence on local English names.
BTW: "Sven" means a knave or young warrior and is even an element in the lyrics of the Danish national anthem. I'm quarter Danish.
All the best
Sven
