Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
I'm not sure what you will all think of my latest post; but I hope you will enjoy it.
It is very difficult to obtain a photograph of the terraced cottages, without trespassing across the farmer's field, but, to be honest, I was more interested originally in the tree. It reminded me of a huge spider and its web, slowly masking the view of the human creations, across the stream. (You know me, I love winter trees as f/g features!)
I did take the photograph in colour but preferred the b&w version for the effect that I wished to create.
I will add the colour version as a workshop.
The snow has all gone now and we are having a few days of warmer weather, without the biting wind!
I wish you a lovely day, too, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
This is probably the most famous individual tree on TE. ;-) There are some fine tones of green and brown in the original photo, but the network of branches and twigs has such a graphic quality that it was a good idea to convert it to B&W. The light created fine contrasts that enhance the impression of a "huge spiders web".
Kind regards,
Gert

Dear Beverley,
Its an excellent observation. The branches really look like a spider or a veil with tick string. The process as well, fits it very much! Not only because I'm a fan of BW photos. :)
It earned its place among my favourites.
Best Wishes,
Gy

Hi Beverley,
You know by now I'd prefered the colors version, but superbly animated the main post with the trees. A nice idea, well done.
Good afternoon,
Ike
*** We have a sever winter storm today, 9C now, gusting winds and rain, thunder and hail and even snow in the mountains of the north and Jerusalem - Not in my town anyway.

Hello Bev,
I prefer you WS version in colour, but this is the chose of the photographer.
Indeed the branches form a cobweb where we see the houses in background.
Good if contrast picture with a soft subject
Very well done, TFS.
Kindest regards,
John

Hello Bev,
A nice b&w capture of the intricate network of branches and because they are currently leafless, they permit a tantalising glimpse of the bg village. Good sharpness and tonal range too. Tfs!

Hello Bev,
I think you copy or follow Malgo in B&W , today posting! :-)
In fact, I enjoy it scaryyyyy much.
Yeah, same pictures with different effects. I like this one better. You know me, I do love creepy winter trees too. Which only can be found in Trawden.
A picturesque scene with flowing stream through the village with the sheep happily grazing the icy grass. What a wonderful place to be! You are so lucky.
Talking of which, I hope these sheep do not tangled in the huge spiders web, maybe one I see.
Me too, hastily I thought I read .....'without the f''ting wind :-) sorry!
Thanks for the handcuffs....I mean ( behave, Madam! )

Hello Beverley, I like both versions; the b/w is probably more dramatic, which is what you were trying to achieve, I think.
Once we look through the tangle of twigs and branches there is a pleasant view of the fields and the houses.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

BEV
the main post has more graphic effect with the net of branches in evidence, the WS shows better the landscape and its details, something hidden in the main post. tow nice versions.
here another sunny hot day of summer with many dengue fever mosquitoes trying to drink our blood.in a neighbor town the dengue fever exploded..
take care

Hi Bev,another great idea to take something close to the home in a very original and different way. The title is perfect and the quality too,the black and white version is a good choice to married with the title, but the colors version is always useful, well done. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Bev,
The collection of branches is impressive and forming a special web. The point of view is showing the details of the tree and of the houses in the background. It is clear and sharp. Have a nice day.

Hello Bev
I like both images. The reveals the snow much better as well as the blended colors of the buildings in the background. But the B/W version has all of the drama one would expect with an image such as this. Nice to include both.

Hi Bev
We've had lots of huge real spiders webs lately, being summer here but tour analogy is a good one with the view through the branches. Good in B&W.
cheers

Hi Beverley
Nice shot of the 'Family Branches' This vintage tree with all its many outstretched limbs of various sizes made me think of the family tree! All the tales untrue facts are given...
Excellent ideas and capture

Hi Bev,
Good idea for a b&w version, interesting contrast and photogenic this "curtain" of branches, well taken, good management for the sharpness with also the view of houses in the BG, tfs.

Hello Bev, Strange coincidence that we both posted the black and white picture. Fantastic composition and stunning sharpness. But when I think about the spider's web I imagine rather a round pattern. here I see the dense tangle of the branches. Nice view of the houses and even a few sheep in the "window".
Have a nice day.

Hi Bev,
with the blue sky like you had there, I would definitely choose the colorful version. If you didn't show the original I would be more than happy with the black and white but I tend to turn to B&W usually only when I really have to.
There is a lot to enjoy here. The cottages are stylish even though distant, and there is a nice stream.
As you said, in this scene the tree is probably stealing the show while the other elements even though pretty they are sidelined. I suppose if one could make a hole in between the tree branches it would clarify the view of cottages a bit. Quite tempting...
This is a beautiful spot,

Black and white works really well in this image. As you say the tree is the star but it frames the cottages very well.
