Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
This weekend, we visited the pretty and amusingly named village of Giggleswick, though the name, Giggleswick is nothing to really laugh about. It's named after a Viking man named 敵igel, whilst 展ich/Wick/Wyke, is old Norse for a farm or settlement.
Its history as a once prominent market town, goes right back to the Domesday Survey when it was referred to as Ghigelswic.
It is situated on the River Ribble, one mile N.E. of the more famous town of Settle and is a gem that is often overlooked.
The neighbourhood abounds with slate and good building stone, used effectively in the many old houses.
The village is full of characterful buildings, usually from the 17th and 18th centuries, so interesting that over 40 of them are listed for their architectural or historical interest.
My photograph shows a view towards the village from a steep hill, where much of Giggleswick School can be found; a boarding school first established in 1499.
Please see my workshop for a slightly different view.
I will show more views of what we discovered, later.
My warm regards, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
The photos show a nice view from slightly different angles. None of them is remarkably better than the other, but the main photo has a better light on the distant hillside and the street looks steeper, which makes the photo a little bit more dramatic. In the WS the wooden fence is given an important role for creating a deep view. The weather seems to have been good enough for a nice weekend excursion and the village looks pretty enough.
Kind regards,
Gert

First time I tried not to giggle while looking at a TE picture...
How typical English village style and landscape far beyond, Beverley.
Found the place on Google-Map at 54.07,-2.279 and took a virtual tour through its streets and roads. Charming.
Good afternoon,
Ike

bev
a really special place as we can see and what I liked more was the pastures divided by stone walls in the fare BG. nice these two samples of the area. here we are happy with the rain we got in these last two days. at same time more at north the rain caused many damages and an historic rich house was demolish by a landslide.

Hi Bev,
The pattern of the road is giving dynamism to the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the houses and of the mountains in the background. The light is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

Hi Bev
For some reason (which does happen) TE didn't load the village name. A good photo looking down over the town and onto the low hills and with stone walls both in and out of the village.
cheers

Hello Beverley,
Both photos were taken in the village and give a good overview of part of the village as well as the beautiful surroundings.
In the WS, the wooden fence provides an attractive foreground while in your main photo the agricultural plots are clearly visible in the distance and their separation by means of dry stone walls (I suppose).
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev,
Very picturesque scenery indeed.
This is an area a bit further from me relatively speaking, since North Yorkshire is quite a large county. So I usually consider a trip there only on a good weather day.
Ironically last week was amazing and this week as well starts grate but the weekend was rubbish.
But I see you didn't stop you from venturing and exploring and recording great photos. The nature itself is asleep at this time of the year but here including some village buildings the scene because more attractive.
Very well done,
M

Hello Beverley, you are quite right, this is often overlooked. Many times in the past we would drive the main road on our way to the Lakes, never having time to stop here and enjoy the place.
This is a lovely view where you have included so much.
I love the view of the fells with their walls creating crazy lines over the hillside.
Thanks for sharing, it brings back happy memories.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Bev,
Yorkshire landscape at it's best, showing old village and stone fences on pastures in the background. This looks fairly green even in January, and the weather was quite nice.

hello Bevm Indeed funny name. And "wick" is also in the name of Keswick. Lovely landscape, I suppose that these lines on the hills are the stone 'fences".

Hi Bev.
Both this splendid view of the town, as well as the complementary view of the WS, give us a good idea of the charm of the town, the magnificent note that you accompany clarifies its importance as a place to visit, a beautiful situation at the bottom of the valley surrounded by the soft and green hills.
Great color that brings out the details of the image, the sharpness is excellent and the lighting is splendid.
Very good work. I like very much.
You have a good day. Very best regards.
Luis.
