Photographer's Note
Not as famous as Tutankhamun Tomb but also the very interesting and beautiful tomb of Queen Puabi.
Queen Puabi's headdress is a 2600-2450 BCE Mesopotamian crown consisting of ornate gold leaf wreaths, strands of lapis lazuli and carnelian beads, with a gold comb, and delicate hair ribbons. The entirety of the headdress is estimated to weigh over 6 pounds. The headdress was discovered resting on Queen Puabi's remains in PG 800 during the excavation of the Royal Cemetery at Ur that began in 1922 and concluded in 1934.
The royal cemetery tomb of Queen Puabi, like the tomb of King Tutankhamun, was an especially extraordinary find for being intact, having escaped looting through the millennia. The tomb featured a vaulted chamber set at the bottom of a deep 電eath pit; the lady was buried lying on a wooden bier. She was identified by a cylinder seal bearing her name that was found on her body. The seal is carved in cuneiform and written in Sumerian, the world痴 first written language.
British archaeologist Leonard Woolley discovered the tomb of Puabi, which was excavated between 1922 and 1934 by a joint team sponsored by the British Museum and the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. The Woolley team included his wife and fellow archaeologist, Katharine, who drew the detailed diagrams of the site. Puabi's tomb was found along with approximately 1,800 other graves at the Royal Cemetery at Ur. Puabi's tomb was clearly unique among the other excavations, not only because of the large number of high-quality and well-preserved grave goods but also because her tomb had been untouched by looters through the millennia.
I was in British Museum 45 years ago and the headdress of Queen Puabi (earlier she was called Shubad) impressed me most and I wanted to see it again.
At first, I felt a bit disappointed. I have seen great collections of Egyptian and Greek art recently in Egypt and Greece. But when I look at some hundreds of photos taken in BM - now at home, wow, they are fantastic.
The British Museum is a public museum dedicated to human history, art and culture. Its permanent collection of eight million works is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence. It documents the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present. The British Museum was the first public national museum in the world.

Hello Malgo,
I wouldn't say that these jewels look modern, but they certainly have a timeless beauty. The ear rings are remarkably similar to what I saw Fulani women in West Africa wearing 40 years ago (and they probably still do). I am sure similar necklaces and head ornaments could be found among "indigenous" peoples in many parts of Africa and Asia (I am not familiar with Latin America). You managed well to avoid disturbing reflections through the glass and the exposure is fine.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Malgo, your post makes me understand how ignorant I am, I absolutely did not know this marvel of historical value in fact equal to the mask of Tutankamon. Your notes gave me an extra touch of culture, two beautiful photos with brilliant details on the gold leaves, it was not easy. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Malgo,
A great photo of the beautiful crown and other jewellery of this ancient queen. The red and golden colours are really eye-catching. Well captured under challenging lighting conditions.

Tydzien w takim muzeum i promil eksponatow obejrzany ;)
Ciekawa prezentacja

Hi Malgo
2 good photos of one of many items "liberated" by the British from Middle eastern regions. You'd think they'd have it mounted on a face.
