Photographer's Note

The Giant's Causeway is a geological phenomenon and one of the greatest natural wonder in Europe.
As a legend, the giant Fionn mac Cumhail built the causeway to walk to Scotland
to fight another Scottish Giant.

In fact these thousants of basalt columns came
from a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago.

As the lava cooled it formed these distinctive shapes. Most of the columns are hexagonal,
however (as you can see on this photo too) there are some with five, four, seven and eight sides.

As unbelievable as it may seem, these columns are naturally occurring - there was
no human intervention.

It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986.
