Overpowering Grandeur, a photo from Highland, Scotland

Photographer's Note

Here is photo from one of my favorite places - Isle of Skye. Although I've been on Isle of Skye just two months ago, I didn't get such a great light as 2 years ago. Isle of Skye is absolutely amazing place especially when you get lucky and the light is just right. Although it is very special place any time you visit it, the landscape particularly stands out when there are some clouds and sunshine at the same time to give some additional depth to already very diverse landscape.

I still remember when I saw similar photo somewhere on internet for the first time. I could not believe that there is actually place like this. This part of island has volcanic origin that gives the landscape amazing shapes.

If you want to get better feeling of scale, look at middle part at very right of the shot, you'll see road going up the hill. There is a small white car on the road as well.

Amazing clarity and POV, really conveys the scale. Nice rich natural colors and the shadowing of the clouds makes for a mystical effect.

All those different shades of green with all the light and darker parts gives your picture real depth!

This is simply stunning. An amazing view, and you've taken your shot in great light which really brings out the texture of the landscape. The dark moody sky gives the shot added atmosphere.
I really should make an effort to get up to this part of the world soon; after all, its just on my doorstep.

Very good view.Nicely captured with the shades and light. Great tones of green in your picture. The unique looking random shapes of the ground makes this more attractive. And yes I see the white car.. I was wondering how it would feel to go on a cycling trip on this land.

This is an overwhelming view from an excellent point of view. The play of light and shadows gives a little bit mysterious scenery. These Western Isles at the edge of Europe are a jewel for hikers and people close to nature, Ithink. A great picture!

Yes, the title is just right. What an amazing scenery... But what really drives me into the photo is the light you captured. It really lends a fantastic 3D feel to the picture and that's what makes this an outstanding achievement. Forgive all these big adjectives, but this full palette of greens is still flooding my mind. I am buying my ticket now!

Stunning! The areas of shadow and light that cut across the landscape really add to the drama of the place. Those wonderful mountains are beautiful - I had no idea that Skye looked like this. Because of your shot I'm now going to have to put this on my list of places to visit. Beautiful work!

What a stunning image! I love the way the light hits the most exciting parts in the scene making a trail around the hill to a far away place.

Small things...to me the image seems a little tightly cropped. A little more skye (hehe no pun) would be great and the road on the right (where car is) seems to close to the edge. Also the chopped off foot of the hill in the foreground sits a little uneasy with me....i would have liked to have seen it meeting yje level.

I love how sharp the image is, how well it is exposed and the colours.

Brilliant image that you can be proud of. Great notes too.`

The place is amazing.There is a sense of grandeur and immensity coming out of this view.At what height are those mountains?
The cloudy clouds are diffusing the light for a very soft effect on the greens who are luminous.
Did you use a ND grad?I am asking as I have just started using one,and I am obtaining a very similar mood and colors on my mountain shots.

looking at this picture i can understand so well that this place became one of your favorites. The light is exceptional there... eveyrwhere. You get a superb point of view with this circular valley shining green and the lake as a magnificent blu dot at the end. Hello Lucie. Long time, too long, since I looked in your gallery. I picked this one because I know Skye well, and my father's family came from Scotland - the McRae clan is the one which 'looks after' the Eilean Donan castle at Lochalsh, not far from Skye. This photo is superb and conveys the grandeur of the scenery better than any other I have ever seen of Skye. The light and colour are marvellous, and that tiny car on the winding road does indeed help us to appreciate the scale. I also love that shining loch. A great photo. Thanks for your notes, too.
