Photographer's Note
Taken in the car park of the cafe and bar at
Hartside summit on the road across the moors between Alston and Penrith, Cumbria. I can't remember the road number but it is claimed that this is the most scenic road road in England. It reminded me of the road across the moors outside Buxton in Derbyshire, the one where bikers stop at the pub called "The Cat and Fiddle". It's a road favoured by bikers too. This view is towards Penrith.
This boy was just standing in my way as I tried to photograph the view. But then I noticed his blonde hair and decided he would enhance not detract from my picture. His hair provided a welcome contrast to the gloomy greyness of the sky.i don't think he realised I was taking his picture as his grandmother was doing the same through the wound down window of their car.At one point he held his arms out, Titanic fashion but i missed that.
cropped, level adjusted, high pass sharpened

Hi Bev,
I think the shot does benefit from the kid being in the shot. It's difficult to be inspired by the grey weather but i like the openess of the landscape & the bleakness you can often get on the hills & moors in the north.
Nice shot.
Regards, David.

Hi,
Yes, it's good to have hime there. He looks so small against the huge landscape. Maybe someone is saying 'someday my boy, all this will be yours!', which I suppose is some ways it will be. Thanks.
Dougie.

Perfect composition, with the boy being just the right touch to contrast the threatening clouds

Nice capture Bev. I think you were right to take it wioth the boy in - he adds interest and is well placed with the rule of thirds.
cheers

Hello, Bev.
A very nice shot and an even better note.
I find that we all like to go up hills and get great views from the top but photographs taken from the tops of hills are always a disappointment: there is rarely any foreground interest - just fields disappearing towards the horizon.
The boy has given depth to the picture and some foreground interest.
Kind Regards,
John.
