Photographer's Note
Elgol Fishing
I guess this little harbour and beach of Elgol on the Isle of Skye has become the "Mecca" for budding photographers. It certainly has instant appeal and great photo potential. I would love to explore this area more than just the night/morning I had here.
My trips are not just for photography but also a holiday for Joanna my wife, so I balance things as best I can. One rough week in Scotland means two weeks in the Med etc.
Anyhow, I think this capture of Elgol is a little different in that it shows what this place is ( a fishing hamlet) the little boats that make their way along Loch Scavaig are all part of the charm. Not the best in quality maybe but worth sharing. Hopefully early next year I will upgrade to super smooth sensor.
BTW As I set this up a sea otter jumped up onto the rocks, I froze It jumped back - I missed a magic moment on camera but I still experienced the magic that is Elgol.

A very mystic, almost unreal place. The clouds, the sea and the rocks create an incredible atmoshphere which you've managed to capture quite well. I don't know if it's because of the filter but in some parts the water almost looks a bit too unreal. Still a truly beautiful shot.

Hi Stephen. Very impressive picture, like a painting of impressionist painter. Good use of probably ND grad filter. Your gallery has also many beautiful coast pictures. I like that.
Best regards, Samuel

Hi Stephen,
One thing i wonder about your photos is whether you apply DRI or HDR to them. Because your pp is much more than a sharpening/saturating issue, there are never overexposures and the results look rather real/surreal combined. Anyway, no need to say i love those results...
Cheers,

Hi Stephen,
This is a magnificent composition in well managed light with perfectly saturated darker tone colors. Again, I do like the motion of the water surface. Great work and TFS. Gerald

This is a beautiful capture Stephen. Having the otter there would have definately made a spectacular capture, but even without it, it is excellent. I really like the colors, the reds in the sky and the blues of the water. I love all of the different textures including the mist. Is the light in the top center the moon?

Another masterpiece Stephen! The huge dramatic cliff face gives this a very striking appearance, and you have framed it exceptionally well with the foreground rocks providing a great sense of depth. The lighting is wonderful too, especially that glow in the sky, and of course the boat adds an essential accent to the scene. Superb!
