Photographer's Note
Last night I decided to try out my Canon Rebel on the end of my 6" refracting Telescope. Having already posted a previous photo of the Moon click here last week using my 75-300 IS zoom which because of the 1.6 crop ratio produces a effective 480 mm focal length on the Telescope this equates to 1920 mm quite an increase!
Not yet having a T-Ring adapter to attach it to the end of my scope I simply had to just hold it there. With heavy overcast skies closing in I only got a few minutes to fire off three shots. The first was blurred due to camera shake and the second was underexposed and the third and last shot was just perfect in all regards.
The full sized version holds a ton of details click here but for trek-earth iv reduced the size by 50% and made the usual adjustments in Photoshop CS. Although Iv not yet uploaded to my website which you will find on my intro page you may find other astro stuff there of some interest.
Date 5th Sept 04 1.17am
Focal length 1200mm F-stop 8
ISO-100 Shutter speed 1/100

I would love to have the high-rez picture, is it possible to put it somewhere on a website ?
The crop is really good, the details are fantastic, everything is very sharp.
I put it in my favorite list :)

Great job, Stephen. Your exposures spot on, there's loads of details, and its sharp.
A grwat shot - especially as you had to hand-hold the camera against the telescope!

Let me understand this correctly: you mounted a Canon EOS 300D to a telescope??!! I've checked the users manual it says that it can't be done!!!!!!!
Fantastic, absolutely fantastic!

...I'll see you on the dark side of the moon...

A brilliant photo, Stephen! This looks like something from NASA - I am stunned at the amount of detail you were able to obtain. Awesome!

Hola Stephen. Una gran foto, la t馗nica para obtener esta foto me parece impresionante. En el departamente de astrofsica de mi universidad hay un telescopio con adaptador tambi駭, pero no he tenido la oportunidad de probarlo. Muy buen trabajo.

Hi Stephen,
I just discover your gallery and this picture is just... amazing ! What a good idea to share with TE. I read it's not an easy shot to do, but anyway good POV and very good sharpness... Excellent. Thanks !

Nice shot. I tried to use my 300 lens on a moon eclipse recently. Quite difficult to maintain quality. I've been looking at lens adapters that fit my microscopes as well as telescopes through an eyepiece adapter. The first type I got had the wrong diameter and I am stil waiting to purchase a more multipurpose adapter.

Hello, to be on the moon. Much professional one. It appeals to also to the title it to me of a song of Pink Floyd. Soon Mari63
