Minimalism: Atat�rk & friend, a photo from Nicosia, West

Another feature from my series of minimalistic photos.

In every Turkish town there is a square with the nation's flag and a statue of Mustafa Kemal Atat�rk, founder and first President of the Turkish republic. This happens to be in the Turkish part of Nicosia (Lefkoşa) on Cyprus, but the flag and the statue are there just the same. A pigeon is taking a rest on the President's head.

It's just a snapshot I never thought much of until now, when I searched my archive for the most uncomplicated compositions.

I have cropped this slightly on the right side for better balance of thirds. It will probably look better in a new tab.

Lep spomenik i zastava, dobro poakznao sa lepim boajma, kontartsom i uhvacenim trenutkom sa pticom.

Hello Gert, the red flag stands out so clearly against the very blue sky.
The pigeon on the statue痴 head really adds to the scene.
The statue looks out over the city. The portrait presentation works well for this shot.

Hi Gert

I am not sure Ataturk would have approved of the hostile territorial expansion in 1974. Quite a few Cypriots emigrated to Australia. Lucky they didn't wait for the Turks to withdraw as they are still there. The red flag contrasts well with the blue sky backdrop and the pigeon adds a humourous touch. Tfs!

Selecting the exact frame puts the position of the statue and the flag at a good angle To show the greatness of both But the pigeon does not pay attention to it. Good sharpness and exposure. Good combination of colors.

at first I thought it was lenin in russia.
a nice view with the famous president, some leaders can really transform a nation for better, of course he was not perfect. this mede me remember to think about get伃io vargas and JK, two of the most important leaders of republican period in brazil, they really transformed this country, and they weren't saints.

En helt anden slags minimalisme end i det andet billede, men jeg kan stadig meget godt lide den. Den bl� himmel bag det re flag er meget smuk og duen p� Atat�rks hoved er en meget sjov detalje.

Hello Gert,
Is minimalism here a reference to Atat�rk's ideas in contemporary Turkey?
Or should we now also write 'T�rkiye' in English after Erdogan decided in December that the country will be called that way in English and no longer Turkey.
Since the English once called the tasty bird 'turkey' because they thought it came from that country, maybe we should also change the name of this sturdy bird? Otherwise the connection will be lost...
You didn't find the crescent moon in Ohrid. But it has also been lost in this photo...
This pigeon isn't really very reverent to someone who has made history. But they just do have a strong penchant for statues.

Hi Gert,there is a special guest on the Ataturk head, but the statue is very clean, not like the roofs of Porto of your last pic, respect for the founder from the pigeons too..ahaha...very nice idea this minamalistic composition this time too,always different and original! Hello Gert,

This is certainly minimalistic.
The plain, blue sky makes a fine backcloth for these three features, all related to each other by touch.
It does have a hint of humour, the the very formal pose of Ataturk losing much of its importance, when viewed with a pigeon on his head!

Hello Gert, More minimalistic would be with the flag only. I do not remember this monument in Nicosia. Strange pose of Ataturk. The same story as the monuments of Lenin and recently in Poland monuments of Lech Kaczyński.

Very timely photo that is nice, with the pigeon on the head of the highly respected Atat�rk, is that the pigeons do not respect anything. I like the perfect verticality of the mast and the flag on it, it's a nice touch of color.
Magnificent color that gives a lot of chromatic richness to the image.
Very good management of lighting and sharpness.

Simple but effective. We have a line, a splash of red and the juxtaposition between the statue of a dead person with a very much alive bird.
