Photographer's Note
Another shot of the enigmatic giant statues near the summit of Nemrut Dagi (2133.6m), on which a tumulus has been constructed by King Antiochus of Commagene, an ancient hybrid Greek & Iranian culture, in 62 BC. Here, the early morning sunlight has illuminated the statues depicted. There were several others, but the light was blocked by the shadows of a crowd of tourists taking snaps of the sunrise. The human figures are Antiochus and Zeus at left, and there are an eagle and a lion at right. More info and pics here:

Hello Chris,
I feel a certain pity that I haven't been here, but it's not possible to see everything in Turkey. This was clearly the right time of the day to be here, when the still soft light accentuated the shapes and textures of the figures.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Chris,
Nemrut Dagi is one of the most spectacular and interesting sites I've visited in Turkey.
I was there once in summertime and the village where I stayed (I think it was Kahta) was the hottest place of the entire country.
Captured with a beautiful light shining on the statues.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Chris,is the fourth photo that you post from these ruins and every time they make me move, truly unique, incredible and mysterious, a place a little off the beaten track, so a very useful post and top quality. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Though teeth of times evident upon those ancient statues, we clearly can see details and appreciate these old art-work, Chris.
Wonderful golden glow enhanced its texture.

Hi Chris,
Nice warm light on these enigmatic faces. The statues show the ravages of time, but this gives them an air of ancient grandeur. Excellent colour and sharpness.

Hello Chris,
You were so lucky to have such a wonderful morning sunlight.
The Antiochus , her face lit up , in golden glow with striking 'crack-freckles' all over her beautiful high cheekbones.
The 'head-standing' next to her ... of course , the powerful sky god with a deadly weapon of thunderbolt , Zeus. Does he need to be protected by these animals?
I've doubt about the face of the Lion. Weird looking but interesting :-)
Tfs,
Loong

Hello Chris,
These are magnificent works, but I am afraid cycles of heat and cold have done a number on them. I wish there could be a way of preventing further deterioration.

a coincidente the man, eagle and lion are symbols of three gospels, maybe should have a bull too. nice view with the best light, these sculptures are very famous.
