walking to Edirne
Edirne (Turkish pronunciation: [eˈdiɾne]), formerly Adrianople, is a city in the Turkish region of East Thrace, close to its borders with Greece and Bulgaria. Edirne served as the third capital city of the Ottoman Empire from 1365 to 1453, before Constantinople (Istanbul) became the empire's fourth and final capital. At present, Edirne is the capital of the Edirne Province in Turkish Thrace. The city's estimated population in 2010 was 138,793, up from 119,298 in 2000. It has consulates of Bulgaria, Germany (Honorary), Greece, Romania (Honorary) and Slovakia (Honorary). Its sister cities are Haskovo and Yambol in Bulgaria and Alexandroupolis in Greece.
According to Greek mythology, Orestes, son of king Agamemnon, built this city as Orestias, at the confluence of the Tonsus (Toundja) and the Ardiscus (Arda) with the Hebrus (Maritza). The city was (re)founded eponymously by the Roman Emperor Hadrian on the site of a previous Thracian settlement known as Uskadama, Uskudama or Uskodama or Uscudama. It was the capital of the Bessi,[4] or of the Odrysians. Hadrian developed it, adorned it with monuments, changed its name to Hadrianopolis after himself (which would be corrupted into Adrianopolis and shortened to Adrianople), and made it the capital of the Roman province of Thrace. Licinius was defeated there by Constantine I in 323, and Emperor Valens was killed by the Goths in 378 during the Battle of Adrianople (378).
In 813, the city was seized by Khan Krum of Bulgaria who moved its inhabitants to the Bulgarian lands towards the north of the Danube.
During the existence of the Latin Empire of Constantinople, the Crusaders were decisively defeated by the Bulgarian Emperor Kaloyan in the Battle of Adrianople (1205). Later Theodore Komnenos, Despot of Epirus, took possession of it in 1227, but three years later was defeated at Klokotnitsa by Asen, Emperor of the Bulgarians.
The date of the capture of the town by the Ottoman Turks is variously proposed by historians from 1361 to 1371. From the reign of Ottoman Sultan Murad I to 1453, Adrianople (its name now Turkified into Edirne) served as the European capital of the Ottoman Empire, until the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople, which became the empire's new capital.

Hi Costantino,
I love your title. It immediately drew me in to see what was going on here, and to go with it, you captureed a brilliant Ssense of movement in the people, even though it seems they are moving quite slowly. The backdrop is perfect too. Quaint and interesting architecture, while the path beneath the people has a great amount of interest and texture. Nicely done!
Cheers

Ciao Costantino
questi uomini in fila sembrano essere a un corteo, ma quello che colpisce sono i loro abiti scuri che contrastano con le facciate colorate.
Un angolo caratteristico della citt che vive del movimento dei passanti, molto interessante.
Buona giornata

HI Costantino
An excellent street shot in your own inimitable style with wonderful information and this gives a different perspective. Couldn't resist the array of colour popping as i think it suits the overall image and always a joy to view particularly I love the great detail in the building and the pavement. A very pleasing image with people around which always add so much value to whole capture. Excellent work, Congrats.
Best regards

Hello Costantino,
I was in Edirne 40 years ago, and although these buildings must have been there in those days too, the city probably looks much more attractive and neat today. This is a very nice view with a good atmosphere among the people walking along the pedestrian street. The pastel colours are very good and the light is very nice.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Costantino,
This has a delightful "Abbey Road" album cover feeling about it, what a great capture! A wonderful portrayal of daily life, and you couldn't have experienced better timing to catch these people exactly where they are...perfectly spaced walking one direction, while the other small grouping in contrast is headed the other way.
And even aside from the human interest, there's a LOT of background detail and colors to admire and look over. Very well composed, this is a great angle to properly generate depth and dimension. Time for a walk! :) Enjoy the rest of the day. Take good care.
Friendly wishes,
Jason

Hi, Costantino,
I did not seen this photo in your Turkish folder. This is not so old image but this view reminds me some Gert's scanned photos from Turkey.
I also like this interesting and informative note.
Best wishes,
