Photographer's Note

We are looking at the cemetery of Shah Melek Mosque. The large tomb near the left edge is that of Shah Melek, who commissioned this mosque. The mosque, erected in 1429, is representative of the early-Ottoman architecture. Shah Melek Pasha, a blind man, played an important role during the succession war between the sons of Sultan Bayezid I. Later, he became an important dignitary in the courts of Mehmet I and Murad II.
