Photographer's Note
I've been looking back through my photos at countries that I haven't posted many photos from.
So .... today I'm going back to 1998 and a journey that we took through Turkey travelling mainly by local buses. I'm starting with Istanbul and some timber buildings showing strong evidence or influence of Ottoman era architecture.
The main photo shows an old 19th century street of Ottoman era houses in a street just outside the Topkapi palace.
In the WS are 2 individual buildings.
All this series are scanned from negatives and as with old negatives the colour isn't always perfect so some later photos will be B&W.

Hello Ian
Beautiful view of this street with pedestrians. Combines well with the green of the trees. Clarity and exposure are well done. Thanks for sharing

HI Ian,
Great scan quality. I am impressed. The architecture is interesting although not too impressive but I see some characteristic decorative elements in it.
Yes I think I will go back to older photos as well. I am currently in Portugal 2009 which was at least already digital but I don't want to make my whole gallery about Portugal...
Great reportage,
M

Hello Ian,
This may become an interesting series for me. I have spent a lot of time all over Turkey, so I look forward to your upcoming photos. The quality of these three photos is at least as good as most of my scans. The buildings shown today all look very "chic" and recently restored, including the cobbled street, so the Ottoman atmosphere is largely lost. But they look nice, including the relatively expensive hotel.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Ian,
You have captured well a daily life scene. The point of view is showing the details of the houses. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian,
I have read about the Ottoman Empire and seen photographs of the amazing mosques but am curious about your photographs. Is this horizontal, boarded style, with overhanging upper floors, seen clearly in all your photographs, typically Ottoman?
This main photograph shows a very pretty, calm street, with lots of foliage and houses creating a long, linear perspective.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Ian,
Very beautiful houses and you show them under 'Sultanahmet'.
I was there in the early 80's and think many of them have been restored before your visit.
I often saw quite dilapidated facades.
I remember a very nice house on the Asian side and the owner, seeing that me and another tourist were admiring the house, called us in to see the interior as well.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ian,
A lovely view of the street with pleasant and gentle sunlight illuminating the charming wooden houses and their small balconies. The low vegetation and the people walking in your direction create a nice foreground also.

Hello Ian.
A beautiful composition with this line of very well preserved wooden houses in the purest Ottoman style, ideal perspective.
A magnificent color and optimal lighting and sharpness.
A good job. that we enjoy
Have a great day. Greetings.

Hello Ian,
I have finally made it to your Turkey photos. I know where this street is, it is right by Topkapı palace, but I have never walked down it. Nice colors from 1998 film.
Regards,
MT
