Photographer's Note
No series of photos from Istanbul can be complete without a visit to Topkapi Palace. For my main photo here is the Salutation gate with a rather unusual sign over the entrance. The sign "Kutlu Olsun" translates as happy Birthday. I don't remember what the sign's significance was. There are, unavoidably, lots of tour groups waiting to enter the main part of the palace.
In the WS are photos of the main external entrance and a courtyard area.
Scanned from negatives.
Thanks to Gert and Malgo for spotting the 75 years - the anniversary of the Republic.

Hello Ian
Beautiful view of this palace. You showed it to us from a good point of view. With crowds, photography is very difficult in this situation

Hi Ian
Hope you made into the Harem inside. An absolute must see with its exquisite Islamic patterns and designs. Good sharpness and the Asian tour groups animate the scene. Tfs!

Hello Ian,
I was in Istanbul in 1997 but at that time I used a video camera, so I have no photos. What a pity. Nice view of the gate. It is written there 75 years. So something happened in 1922. Turkey's Grand National Assembly abolished the Sultanate on 1 November 1922. Mehmed VI and his family sought refuge with the British military authorities.

Hello Ian,
The Turkish republic was proclaimed on 29 October 1923, so I guess that's the 75th birthday they were preparing for.
The quality of these pictures is obviously not comparable to that of your digital photos, but the elegance of the Topkapı Palace is undeniable.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Ian,
The presence of the crowd is animating the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the Topkapi palace. The light is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

Hi Ian,the quality isn't the top because the light, but enough to see the tourist invasion close to the Topkapi palace, and the lot of bus in the WS is a confirm, nice memories of old times without Covid. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Ian,
The worst about my archival photos which I find now is not even the washed out colors but if they are framed too tightly, I would these days prefer to take a step back but you cannot do it anymore...
Nice capture, I like the presence of the flag above the entrance.
Nice souvenir from your trip,
M

Hi Ian
Not bad a scanned job from analog world. You did your best here I know, interesting retro image of the famous palace with human input adds on to make it happening.
Best regards

Hello dear friend and have a nice day
and a happy week end
the light in this photo is not
so good but generally this
scenery seems to be taken
from a book with fairy tales...
and so many people down there!!!!

Hello Ian,
Ah, that was the 75th anniversary of the Republic, those were still the hopeful days. Sad to say, but my dad died literally during the first hours of the 75th Anniversary. I am glad he did not live long enough to see what Turkey has become.
I must admit, I do not remember the quiet place in the courtyard shown in your WS photo.
Regards,
MT
