Photographer's Note

Right past the Naval Museum is Barbaros Park, named after the 16th century Ottoman Admiral-in-Chief, Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha (also known as Hayreddin Barbarossa, Hızır Hayrettin Pasha, or simply Hızır Reis).

We are looking at the Barbarossa Hayreddin Pasha Memorial by the scupltors Zht Mridoğlu and Ali Hadi Bara. The statue of Barbarossa was sculpted by Ali Hadi Bara, completed in 1946 which was the 400th anniversary of the admiral's death.

The workshop contains a photo of Barbarossa's tomb, about a 100 meters north of this memorial.
