Ani Castle II, a photo from Kars, East Anatolia

Photographer's Note

I have previously showed a shot of the outside entrance of the Ani Castle but not the interior view depicted here. The fg is a profusion of wildflowers after the long, bitterly cold winters in these elevated parts.

The reversed swastika pattern above the windows and the nesting bird on the top right of the tower caught my eye.

Hello Chris,
It seems the swastika was an ancient Armenian symbol of God and eternity, so there should be no need for Putin to "denazify" this former Soviet republic. But it nevertheless catches my eyes high up on the tower. It is actually an eye-catching photo in other ways too, thanks to the clear and bright colours and not least the flower in the foreground.

Excellent picture upon the fron of the ruins, Chris.
Some late era renovations made, but kept the old parts intact.
The revers-swastika is an evinence to Mid-Asian tribes most probably swarmed the area long ago,IMHO.

Hello Chris, the very blue sky makes an excellent background for the ruined castle.
Sadly the castle looks in poor repair, but it makes a good subject for this shot.

Hello Chris,
A great photo of the large tower, the old walls and the gate, all placed really well in the composition. The foreground adds some nice flowers as well. The clarity is excellent thanks to the beautiful day and bright sunshine.

Are these the ruins of the Armenian town in which there is no mention of Armenians on the modern signs? It looks like there is some semblance of preservation, though.

Beautiful sight of this ancient ruins. The swastika also caught my attention. I know it is a popular symbol in India but didn't expect it in this region.
