Photographer's Note
As my previous post was from the desert of Iran I thought I start my Yemen story with shot from desert too. This photo was taken just after the sunrise. It was not the most impressive desert place I致e ever visited but I still managed to get some nice shots. It was taken in surrounding of troubled Marib area where we have been constantly accompanied by police, army or Bedouins. Marib, one of the key centers of the trade routes of the region, was one of the largest and most prosperous cities in the Sabaean kingdom and the site of some of the world's earliest civil construction projects.
To get to this desert place we have departed Marib at 5AM (accompanied by a armed bedouin) & travelled through the 妬ncense road across the undulating deserts of the Empty Quarter (Ramlat Al-Sab'atayn) to reach Sayun in the afternoon. It was one of the most amazing drives that took us across dessert with no sign of human existence through hundreds of kilometers. My TE friend Daniel nicely gives human touch to this photo.
All the best in the New Year.

You have taken us on a nice trot around the two deserts. This one is vivid and has lovely tones and textures. I like the hues and the pov you have achieved. Good and amazing work indeed.

Tr鑚 belle lumi鑽e et fantastique texture du sable ! Les ombres sur les ondulations forment de tr鑚 belles formes et accentuent le contraste !
La personne donne de la vie l'image !

hello Lucie, your desert pictures are really good. those last two are different but I like both (and others too, what you can see in points you got). first one more traditional, and special colours of sunrise make that one special. very nice 'game' of lights. like someone said: light is everything! regards!

I like the golden tones and the shadows on the desert sand. You really chosen the best time of the day to portrait this scene because the light really created great patterns. Daniel - adding the fact that he is a great human being - is a great anchor to the shot. It helps giving scale to the photo. Congratulations for another pearl Desert Queen. ;)
And a Happy New Year! :) May the best light always travel by your side.

Ahoj!!!
So here we are back on our respective corporate coal mines.
What a nice way to begin your Yemen accounts, I particularly like your model, he looks quite sharp!!
Really; great use of light, you will remain the queen of landscapes as seeing for your output you got a lot more out of the Yemeni landscape that I got.
It was very nice travelling with you.
Cheers
Daniel
PS I didnt get the emails you told me

So you finally made it to Yemen? Incredible light, a superb desert shot as usual, I never went to Marib, it was rumored to be dangerous at the time.

Amazing shot! The low angle lighting creates a very interesting pattern on the surface of the sand, and also a texture that seems so solid that you feel like you can reach out and touch it. That by itself is very good, but when you add in the person walking in the distance then this becomes a classic - timeless beauty!

Hi Lucie,
I think this is a brilliant composition. I had to look a few times to get it but am totally impressed. The details and textures of the sand are amazing but the really magic touch is how you included the person in the far upper left to add a fine human touch, but more than that, to give a sense of scale. Excellent work and a winner for sure. Great work and TFS. Gerald

Dag Lucie,
Not only brilliant light but most of all a superb composed image. The lady of the desert strikes again and that shows. You did really a wonderful job here with the low pov and inluding a human in the picture. A very strong image, not at least by that magical light you captured here...great shot.

Glad to see you made it safely through this area, and that you were able to go at all. When I was there in August, the government wouldn't let me go this route to Sayun, even with a guard so I was unable to visit this area.
The lighting is very good, with the red sand from the setting sun. Good inclusion of a human touch.
Regards,
David
