Union Station and the CN Tower
I posted five photos from Toronto in the past two weeks and none of them featured the city痴 most famous landmark: the CN Tower. Time to change that. Here痴 a photo taken at the junction of Front Street and Bay Street. It shows Union Station in the foreground and the CN Tower and some of Toronto痴 newest high-rise buildings behind it.
Front Street has existed since 1796, when it was an original street in the Town of York, Toronto痴 predecessor and the second capital of the district of Upper Canada, and it used to run along the shores of Lake Ontario. Union Station is the busiest railway station in Canada and the second-busiest in North America (after New York Penn Station). The Beaux-Art style building was opened in 1927.
The CN Tower was completed in 1976 and was the world痴 tallest free-standing structure until 2007 (553.3 metres). It is a communications and observation tower, built by the railway company Canadian National (hence CN). It was named one of the modern Wonders of the World in 1995.

Hello Lars, Excellent composition and impressive view. especially that you can see it in a big format. Have you been to the tower? Interesting architecture of this two similar skyscraper.
Great colour and sharpness. I know this station, I came to this place from the airport. And at first, I haven't noticed the TV Tower.
Kind regards MAlgo

Hello Lars,
You show us an impressive array of architecture here, though secretly I really like the railway station best with its elegant classical lines. The whole is nicely illuminated and benefits from excellent colours and clarity.

Hej Lars,

Hi Lars,
The wideness of the area is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the Union Sation, of the other buildings and of the CN Tower. Did you go to the top of the CN Tower ? Have a nice day.

Hello Lars,
I find this photograph very interesting, how the f/g of the Union Station is so very different in materials, colours and design from all those which surround it, as if peeping over its shoulder, to grab a view of the street!
The CN Tower is a very recognisable building, standing out both in design and height!
Did you manage to go to the top?
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Lars,
Not much you could do about the tower leaning. I had the same problem with the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben. Unless you place them dead centre, a wide angled view gives the illusion of leaning. But this composition is much more interesting for placing the tall buildings at the side rather than dead centre, which is kind of boring. Good sharpness and the verticals are well placed in the centre. Tfs!

Hello Lars, you managed to get the top of the tower in frame, top marks for that!
An interesting point of view. The traditional building of Union Station backed by all the modern high rise buildings and towers.
The skyscrapers all have blue tones, probably reflecting the colour of the sky on their shiny surfaces.
Excellent.
Regards Jean.

Dag Lars,
Dat was een knappe prestatie om 5 foto痴 uit Toronto te tonen zonder de alom aanwezige CN-toren, want in bijna elke uithoek van de stad is wel een puntje te zien.
Een mooie prestatie.

Oh, what a large minaret you have captured! The CN Tower seems to be coming out of the station.

Thanks for your continuous critiques on my photos, Lars.
This is the first place I saw in Toronto when arrived by train from NY, it was on late July 1978, still remember this giant RR station as it looks today.
The surrounding towers is a change, there was the CN-Needle and some fewer on downtown back than.
Good view with the street action, people and cars.
Wish you a nice weekend,
Ike

Wat ik hier mooi aan vind, is het contrast in kleur tussen de blauw-achtige backdrop en het oude gebouw in het midden. Ook beneden komt dan die blauwe toon weer terug.

Splendid panoramica of this great station with the interesting building that soon celebrated its one hundred anniversary, great diversity of high buildings surrounding it, as well as the TV antenna.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.

Hi Lars,
Quite interesting city view from Toronto. Obviously these buildings are from different decades and make a good combination of style. The tower is perfectly placed and at least for me tells that this is Toronto. The size of this tower is very difficult to comprehend looking at pictures. I guess I should go and see it myself.

Dag Lars This wide layering of old and new buildings is quite attractive due to the chosen pov showing the historic building in full glory on two sides. As for the backdrop, it reminds me of The Jetsons comic strip of the sixties in which flying cars were seen allover the sky, going around buildings! Flawless technique as usual! Tot ziens

Hi Lars,
great composition presenting the station but in such a wonderful context of the CN tower and a set of modern buildings behind,
The final effect is very impressive.
The distortion makes us feel as if looking upwards.
Fantastic resulting geometry.
Excellent work,

Hi Lars
love seeing Canada, we don't see as many shots from Canada on TE compared to European shots (from travelers, not locals), so this is fun for me. I don't have the statistics to back it up, but i remember hearing recently that Toronto has one of the worlds highest number of Sky Scrapers, the city must be a concrete jungle of glass :) I would love that. Cool view with the leaning tower here, along with the railway station. awesome. cheers

Hello Lars,
I remember going to the top of the CN Tower many years ago, but I don't remember Union Station. Oh well. :-) The station reminds me a lot of the main post office across from Penn Station here in NYC. They are actually converting part of that structure back to a new Penn Station now. Nice lighting, and a good job fitting everything into the frame.
