Photographer's Note
Air Miles Tower
The Air Miles Tower, 438 University Avenue, Toronto, headquarter of Air Miles Canada's, is not a building with an eccentric exotic design, but stands out for its refined design.
The plan with shifted blocks creates a staggered fa軋de. The glass curtain fa軋de is creating an optical spatial woven fa軋de by the use of horizontal layers that gives the building a very attractive graphical pattern.
Due to the varying brightness of the reflections if the layers and the jagged structure, a very lively three-dimensional image is created.
The building was designed by Omar Yeung Architect & Associates and was commissioned in 1992.
I used different focal lengths for the three photos of this presentation
■ Picture 1: ◄ 50 mm close up►
■ Picture 2: ◄ 23 mm full facade ►
■ Picture 3: ◄ 16 mm panorama view►
The skyscraper left of the Air Miles Tower is the Residences of the RCMI - Royal Canadian Military Institute, high 145 m, designed by Zeidler Partnership Architects

Hello Rob,
The WS photos show this building as rather more modest than the main photo indicates. The close view and tight framing, and the angle from where you took the photo, make the maximum use of the effects created by the design. We see smart patterns and attractive reflections that certain modernist painters or sculptors may have created. Judging from the full size views the artistic composition of the main photo is no doubt due to your eyes and skill, more than the architects.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo Rob,
Een heel mooi zigzagpatroon waarbij het moeilijk te zien is wat gespiegeld wordt en wat niet. Er zijn bovendien enkele aantrekkelijke warme kleuren tussen alle blauwe tinten.

Hi Rob
You did an amazing job by selecting this fragment of the fa軋de. You created a powerful abstract image showing a repetitive pattern in different warm and cool hues.
The WS give us an idea what the whole building looks like but, as photographic art, this is the obvious main upload.
Have a nice weekend

Bonjour, cher Rob,
F駘icitations, vous avez su me convaincre des architectures contemporaines.

Hi Rob,
The reflections on the windows are asset to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the building. The light is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Rob,
Your main photograph shows the building off to its best.
The zig-zag threads, in reality and reflection, create a hypnotic effect, very 3D in appearance. It really is an amazing patter.
It is interesting to see the building's location and overall shape but it does lose the the impact felt in the main shot.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

A bit of a strange name for a tower, but yes that's another great architecture shot, Rob. (Soms gebeurt het dat ik spontaan in het Engels schrijft en dan pas achteraf merk dat het ook in het Nederlands kon, waarvoor sorry...ik bedoel: vergiffenis)

Hello Rob!
This is very fine - just structures and geometry, with some dots of non-blueish colour.
Have a nice Sunday!

Hello Rob,
I agree with others here that you have made the very most of photographing this interesting building by way of the fine composition of your main picture, while your two workshop photographs really present wider views and allow us to appreciate the full extent of the building. Your main image is the most "concentrated" and makes the very most of the building's form.
And all images demonstrate lovely light, true colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and clarity.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.

Rob, that glass facade is modern, very elegant and reflects what is around the building. The graphical patterns create a three dimensional effect. An excellent photo report showing the evolution of the architectural styles. Fine colors, good image quality, instructive photo note, regards.

Hallo Rob,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hi Rob
That glorious dappled light & shadow is a plus point for me, of a remarkable close shot of this ultra modern glass bulding that you really are getting some mileage out of this! Beautiful architecture especially its repetitive shapes and patterns with good contribution of horizontal and vertical lines which makes the compo more stronger. That marriage of colour is just awesome, simply graceful to view, Congrats.

Hi Rob,
great series of photos.
I always appreciate the view of the whole structure even though that without the doubt the main photo is the most creative.
The result is stunning also due to the reflections which especially in the upper parts are creating an interesting illusion of building being transparent.
Great capture and so very educational as always,

Hi Rob
you know i'm going to like this one, you could have easily taken this shot in Vancouver. The overall visual is quite graphic, and I think the most effective of the group you show us. From my eyes, this is very striking. cheers

Hello Rob, your close up makes the most of the design of this building. The reflections are a delight.
Your workshop shots explain the buildings' situation, and with careful consideration you have shared its fascinating patterns.
As someone has commented, this is photographic art, keep them coming!
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Rob,
This is a beautiful frame of repeating patterns, lines and geometric shape - bordering on the abstract. The architecture is very pleasant, as seen in the other photos, but you have uploaded the most artistic photo as the main entry. 👏

Hello Rob, Attractive facade and the close up shows the nice patterns.
But as I have said before, I find it very strange that you go again and again to similar places instead of seeing something different.
I fell in love in Dubai. It has all - the most breathtaking modern architecture in the world (IMHO), beautiful street art, old districts, efficient transportation, marvellous mosque and Louvre in Abu Dhabi, it is quite cheap and not so far. And it has something more than American cities - the wonderful Oriental atmosphere. I haven't any time to show all this up to now.
Kind regards MAlgo
