Photographer's Note
TUNIRRUSIANGIT
During our visit to the Art Museum of Ontario we enjoyed the unique exhibition "Tunirrusiangit: Kenojuak Ashevak and Tim Pitsiulak"
A wonderful retrospective exhibition of two generations of Inuit artists:
Kenojuak Ashevak (1927-2013) was born in an igloo in an Inuit camp, Ikirasaq, on the southern coast of Baffin Island. Her father, Ushuakjuk, an Inuit hunter and fur trader, and the mother, Silaqqi, named Kenojuak after Silaqqi's deceased father.
Kenojuak is known as the 'grandmother of Inuit art'. Characteristic are her flowing graphic stories and the amazing use of magic markers
Timootee "Tim" Pitsiulak (1967-2016) a Inuk artist and hunter based in Nunavut, Canada. Tim is a nephew of Kenojuak.
He worked as a hunter while making jewellery, sculptures, lithographs, and photographs, and large coloured-pencil drawings, the last of which is best known for. His subjects were Arctic wildlife and scenery, and traditional and modern Inuit culture.
In Inuktitut, Tunirrusiangit means 'their gifts' or 'the gift they gave.'

Hello Rob,
We are shown three interesting paintings of which #1 and #3 would best fit my ignorant expectations of Inuit art relatively untouched by the trends in the major Canadian society. They somehow make me think of Sami art. And if I get tired of looking at the painting/drawing in the main photo I could look at the young woman forever looking at the work of Kenojuak Ashevak.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo Rob,
Drie mooie museumobservaties. De bijzondere Inuit kunst verdiende het natuurlijk ook om goed bestudeerd te worden, zoals deze dame ook deed. Ook op dit werk zijn de vogels weer prominent aanwezig.

Hello Rob, Inuit art has a certain charm that I have always enjoyed.
So what better than three examples, all quite different and delightful.
I would love to have seen this exhibition; I am assuming that it was on tour?
The body language and presence of the art museum visitors complete each shot.
Very interesting information.
Kind regards, Jean.

Goedenavond Rob,
Prettige avond,
John

Hi Rob,
You have captured well the conmcentrationof the person looking at the artwork. The point of view is showing the details of the painting. The surrounding light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Rob
Well spotted photo opportunity.
Excellently framed and composed, it really brings out a message, especially the tilted head while studying the art.
The grain of the photo works well with the style of the artwork. I do however find the photo slightly dark. I would probably boost the brightness a few points.

Hi Rob.Today's post is really interesting, showing works by Inuit artists that are certainly not very numerous. The main photo shows a drawing that even remembers the prehistoric graffiti in its simplicity. Very original and colorful the two WS, one made me think of Munch's scream ... also Nordic..ehehe ... Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Mooi Rob, de vrouw die haar hoofd draait kijkend naar het schilderij vlak voor haar, typisch museumbezoekrsgedrag maar tegelijkertijd een beetje merkwaardig,

Hi Rob
Intriguing series of three photos, similar in style but all different. Very good combination of viewers and art they are looking at - you can see in their poses they are looking at the pictures with attention.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hi Rob
Leaning the head helps to understand the message? I am surprised to see a tent on the painting/drawing.
Nice interaction

Hello Rob,
Thank you for sharing these; there is something so very special about this style of art.
It feels important how sensitively this piece of art has been framed and you have managed to link the art to a visitor whose colours are equally sympathetic.
I like the w/s, too.
I would be more than happy to display any of these pieces in my house ... if only!!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Rob,
When I was a little kid 'eskimo' was a perfectly acceptable word along with aboriginal. Now we must call them Inuit and indigenous Australians. I wonder when the pc crowd will twig that it's not the word per say, it's the intent and tone that they are used with. Anyway, some fine art here depicting the Inuit and their lifestyle. The wigwam structure resembles a hat on the girls head. Tfs!

Rob, the visitor looks absorbed by this artwork exhibited in the gallery. It is an Inuit piece of art representing a traditional tent, birds and warmly dressed characters . Fine colors, good image quality, instructive photo note, regards.
