Hello Dave,

A good capture of this intricately patterned butterfly. The false eye would certainly be startling to a predator. I think that a more substantial note about the species name, place of capture and habits of the butterfly would be useful to the viewers. It is hard to tell at macro range but I think that he is feeding on a banana - something which I saw in a butterfly house in Thailand. There is selective sharpness here, the area around the head is good but I think some focus is lost towards the back of the wing. That is the tradeoff with macro photography, you have to sometimes neglect some areas and focus others for the best effect. It is an interesting subject that is for sure. They move about a fair bit so a shot of this nature is quite difficult to get; out of about 50 shots of butterflies I took at the sanctuary I think about 5 were successful.
