Mountain Sunrise, a photo from Alberta, Prairies

Photographer's Note

From Moraine Lake, in Banff National Park. This has to rank as my favourite location for photography, because of the natural beauty and the great light that you often get there too. On the morning I took this, The sun was just peaking through a small break in the clouds and giving a sliver of light on the mountains, like a spotlight. I have some other shots with less contast and more detail in the shadows, however, I prefer this one as it shows the drama of the light hitting the peaks in a better way.

Hi Alvin,

you pushed the color saturation very far, almost too much, but it works well emphasizing the spectacular light band on the rocks. The whole scene is gorgeous showing a great atmosphere.

Alvin,
This is a well composed shot using the reflection to create depth and balance. The lighting is great and the photo has nice sharpness and DOF. The colors are a little over saturated for my taste but very effective in creating contrast.

Hi Alvin,
yes, the effect of the stripe gilded on the magnificent mountains that has created the light across the clouds is spectacular and it has a big plasticity.
You could make use of this so opportune moment to take an excellent photo, but also, the scenery is so beautiful that the photo is even better.
Beautiful place to visit some day....and beautiful shot.

this place seems to never deceive those awaiting something magical... i've seen different lights, different times of day: always something special 'on display' here. i love that line of 'burning' light on the mountains.

Alvin,
Beautiful morning light on these few peaks out of the ten. A very common POV but the drammatic light and mood make it special and yet always different at different time of day. The blue of this lake once your saw it, you'll never forget. The saturation is on the borderline of too much, but that is a matter of taste, I like a more subtle tone but rich. Thanks for such beauty, great work.

Missed this one. In more ways than one. The access road to Moraine Lake was closed by snow, & for maintenance, when I was there in October. So thanks for sharing. A spectacular sunrise view of the lake & mts. Tfs!

Alvin,
you're really the lucky guy to live in such proximity and have so many opportunities to revist this place until you get the ultimate shot of the Ten Peak Valley. It isn't difficult at all to relaize why this is your favorite place to put your tripod down. I was only once there and not necessarily with the best light conditions but I fell in love with it. Your shot conveys extremely well this feeling that I had standing at the top of the rock pile.

Hi Alvin,

The reflections in the water are assets to the composition. The point of view leads our eyes toward thhe Ten Peaks which is giving depth to the photo. The light of the sunrise id giving nice colors to the scenery and especially the golden reflections on the mountains. Have a nice day.
