Photographer's Note

Its 6:15 a.m. and fishermen head off into the misty upper reaches of Pitt Lake. Pitt Lake, located 32 km (20 mi.) from Vancouver, is 27 km (17 mi.) long and flows into the Fraser River. However, it is also the largest freshwater tidal lake in North America. Tidal changes plus fierce winds which blow up suddenly make this a very hazardous lake to traverse except in placid weather. The surrounding mountains form part of a rugged wilderness area that is home to grizzlies, black bears, and cougars.
