Bridge for Malgo, a photo from British Columbia, Western

Photographer's Note

Most of us here on TE are fully aware of the fact that Malgo loves bridges, especially bridges that open up and elevate to allow tall ships to pass under.

So here we have one for you Malgo. This bridge in this position is basically showing off, the city wanted to keep it elevated to show its beauty, as it sits directly next to the old bridge. I lugged around my tripod as it was late late blue hour, almost black hour, and it was worth it.

The story behind this is as follows. This shot was taken the night before the official opening of this bridge. Victoria had a celebration the day before, celebrating the OLD bridge which it is replacing.

It was quite the event, lots of food trucks, dancers, singers, live music, lots of festivities, the Major was out giving speeches etc etc...

So in the WS I will post 2 photos of the Old Bridge, with a Disco Ball hanging from it. Obviously the Disco ball was all part of the festivities.

I decided i will post both bridges side by side as my next post - initially I was going to use it as a WS, but I like it so much it'll be a main post.

Hello Craig,
Malgo will enjoy this photo, but you should remember that she also likes towers, churches, mosques, waterfalls... you name it. ;-)
I'm not sure I would have realized this was a bridge unless you had told us. It could have been a well illuminated tower (but where's the entrance?), or maybe a strange monument. In any case the bright blue and white elements look great against the dark sky.
Nice pictures in the WS too, but not enough food trucks, dancers, singers... to satisfy my need for daily life. ;-)

Hi Craig,a great memory from Victoria,you were in the right place in the right day,ready for the opening of the new bridge. In fact isn't easy the choice of the best pic,all are interesting,very nice this perspective,but very useful too the old bridge tranformed in an open air disco..ehehe..have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello Craig, I am crazy about the movable bridges so thank you for this picture and the dedication :). It is a bit difficult to understand what I see, but no problem I found in Google Map that it is Johnson Street bridge. Between the blue parts is the road, here black. Spectacular night composition.

Hello Crai,

My first though was, "I didn't realise that Canada had entered the Space Race"!
I really perceived this as a rocket!
It is bright, it is colourful, it has great lights and shadows and it is nicely angled across the frame, the best composition for a photographer.
I like it, but for me, the better photograph is w/s 2, where we are sharing an amazing view of the old bridge with another photographer.

Looking forward to seeing more, Bev :-)

As Beverley comment, it looks like a rocket launching ramp. Together with your upwards POV, it really made an intriguing picture. Nice additional photos in WS as well. Fine work:) TFS.

Fine dedication to a friend, with a great three photos.
The two auxiliaries are beautiful but the strongest impression on me is the massive construction in the main photograph.
I especially like the colors.

Oh wow, I thought it was a tall building when I saw the thumbnail (so I didn't understand the title really either at first). What an amazing photo of this opened bridge. The illuminations are spectacular as well. Very well done.
