Photographer's Note
Lovely as it is, Herbert Lake is far from the most stunning lake in the Canadian Rockies. It's well below treeline in the montane ecosystem, so there are really only two reasons the views of the mountains are so excellent. One is that it's decent-sized, so the far shore is some distance away, and the other is that the road was built right along the edge of the lake, so there's not much opportunity for trees to grow on its northeastern edge. During the middle of the day, the lake is a rather vivid green color--interesting, but not exactly the pretty blue-green of glacial water (since it's not glacially fed).
But I still absolutely love this lake at sunrise, in the early morning, and in the early evening. Just love it. I first visited it 10 years ago (still with a thin layer of ice), and its simple beauty won me over not just to the lake but to the Canadian Rockies. I've been hooked ever since.
Almost no clouds, but lovely light, wildflowers, mist and a reflection. It was a pretty run-of-the-mill sunrise, but I don't mind those.

Hi Clarke
A simple shot which gives to my memory a feeling of quietness, the reflection in the still lake is perfect, no wind for the moment
Cheers

Hello Clark,
I can understand why you love this lake at sunrise, if this is the result! There is a deep tranquility, created by nature at its stunning best: wild flowers, a still, lake surface and reflections that could have been produced by a mirror!
It's satisfying just to linger and look.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Clark
This is a great composition, the mountains and lake alone make a fantastic photo but the variety of colour from the flowers really adds an extra element.
Cheers

Hi Clark,
One more fantastic shot ! The golden light on the mountains is gorgeous. The reflections are very nice. The composition is well balanced, with the foreground adding depth and the horizon on a third a line. Excellent depth of field and sharpness.
Have a nice week,
Olivier
