Calatrava in Calgary

In the afternoon we went back to Calgary to explore some other parts of the city. We started near Peace Bridge, which is seen in this photo. Peace Bridge is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge across the Bow River. It was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and was completed in 2012. It is nicknamed the Finger Trap Bridge after the puzzle of the same name.

Hi Lars,

The length of the bridge is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the architecture of the bridge. The light is bringing out the beauty of the colours. Have a nice day.

Calatrava seems to be everywhere. :-) I like this POV looking straight down the bridge. The red color and shadows on the ground are very nice. The people seem to be enjoying a nice, summer stroll. Take care...

It doesn't look like this bridge gets as many bicycles as it would if it were in Amsterdam. The man with the red shirt wouldn't be walking where he is.

Well, I immediately like this!
It is a photograph that I would love to have taken!
The details of the bridge have been captured expertly, so that they emphasise the triangular shapes, above and below, and create the most amazing sense of depth and perspective. The people animate as well as adding further bright colours.

a funny name for the monument. haha.
nice details of the structure with its repetitive patterns and many personages. this architect is very famous and each town has a monument created by him, how many not famous architects would create masterpieces too and aren't invited. fame is the name of the game, a label, a name...

Hi Lars,
Beautiful pedestrian bridge with that curving cover. Calgary has snowy winters, but I can imagine some cover is welcome on hot summer days too. I see the style of Calatrava as you mention it, but it is not that obvious as on his many other works.

Lars, wonderful recent bridge built in Calgary. It is dedicated to pedestrians and cycles, cars and motorbikes aren t allowed here. Its design reminds a spinal column. To walk here gives the impression of being inside a body due to the red color. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Hello Lars, The shapes are characteristic for Calatrava but this pink colour is something unique. Fantastic picture. Great symmetry, depth and nice matching colours of the people.

Vaak hebben Calatrava-projecten een overheersende witte kleur.
Hier spant rood de hoofdtoon.
Op een goed moment genomen wanneer de vele schaduwlijnen mooie diagonalen vormen op de vloer.
Goede aanwezigheid van mensen zonder te druk te zijn.

Dag Lars,
Geen brug met een duidelijk Calatrava signatuur hier in Calgary, maar natuurlijk wel een mooie brug. Ik vind het altijd wel te prijzen als een architect niet altijd varieert op hetzelfde kunstje maar ook eens wat anders probeert. Een de eindeloze repetitie geeft hier mooie fotomogelijkheden.
