Photographer's Note

Early morning on a foggy day in Vancouver. I went up to one of the nearby mountains to take this shot of Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, while blanketed by a layer of fog. Foreground area is the harbour, Burrard Inlet, and the mountain on the right is called Burnaby Mountain, which also happens to be the home of Simon Fraser University. In the distance you can see successive rows of mountains, getting higher and higher until you see the Cascade Mountains in the distance. This shows the rugged terrain around Vancouver, as well as some nice atmospheric effects.

Hello Alvin! I love this photo.
What a gorgous place to capture the fog and mist over the Fraser Valley and the Cascades. Very nicely framed in with outstanding viewpoint.
This one goes into my favorites Alvin. Excellent work. All you need to do is correct your spelling on the word faggy!

First of all- glad to see you fixed the type-o. Paul & I had a few laughes on chat over that one...

This is an excellent shot mate. The lighting is surreal and some good details as well. You leave me wondering which mountain this was taken from. Poco area??

Wow, what a shot with such warm colours. I love the sunbeams coming down, the beautiful blanket of fog in hte valley and the jagged peaks in the background. The lighting here is stunning and you captured it all so fantastic! Great composition and amazing atmosphere! Excellent work, Alvin!

Great - the layers really make this one. Technical aspects aside, I'm especially impressed by the effort it took to get up early enough to capture this ;) The best landscape photos are the ones where you plan in advance, and this is a great example.

I love the layered look of the mountains. Every layer is a different shade of purple or orange. The fog looks really neat with the sunlight hitting the top of it, which must be somewhat of a rare occurrence. I certainly don't remember ever seeing anything like it. This is a beautiful scene and you captured it very well.

Those Vancouver mountains are always wonderful. The POV is perfect and the DOF is really great. Colors are interesting too! Hope that I'll visit your part of the country another time... someday!

Hi Alvin.

This is simply one of the best I've seen from you and you have a lot of good ones. Not only it is nice to see those rugged mountains as just silhouettes vanishing in the distance, but you also have been lucky to have the low clouds(fog) lighten my majestic very low light. We all should appreciate this photo also because scenes like this are mere moments in one day, not to mention the whole history. I don't remember seeing anything quite like this with my own eyes.

you captured yourself some great light here. The deep yellow/orange colors are all over the place. And with so much detail in the background mountains it is simply wonderful.
And as cream on the pie the clouds in the valley...you were very lucky to catch a scene like this...beautiful..!!!

Well composed with subtle lighting and shadow effects. I like the proportion of foreground trees here, nicely silhouetted, as well as the layered nature of the clouds and mountains. A good example of depth being created by such layering. A superb capture, Alvin.
