Photographer's Note

More fall colours, this time from the Nitobe Japanese Garden, at the University of BC. The range of colours in this place is just amazing. This is probably the most beautiful time of the year to visit the garden, and it's only open on week days from 10 to 2:30 in the winter months, which doesn't really help me because I'm working at those times. Because of the place being constantly closed at this time of year, I had to jump the high fence to get this picture. It's nice to have the place to yourself, but on the other hand, having a person walking down that path would have been great too!

Who do you want to impress with all these colors...me? ;-)
You are dedicated, jumping a fence is an extra point, i would also do that ;-)
No need to say that the photo is very colorful, and that you found the right spot with the bending path with all the red leaves on it.
A wonderful image...really nice work, i like it a lot.

The different coloured leaves contrast so nicely. The rounded bushes give the Japanese feel and I like the way your pov draws the eye to them which compensates for the lack of people. Of course, ideally you should have had a Japanese lady in a kimono ;-)
I would maybe have rubbed out the white spot on the tree trunk on the left.

Hello Alvin. The thumbnail here opens up into a variety composition here. I really like the curved lines of the pathway and round shaped foreground shrubs in the lower part of the frame in contrast with the dark tree trunk details and contrasting colors in the upper frame. I think that is what gives this photo its own attraction. Good work Alvin!

Hi Alvin! Very well done, those bright autumn colors almost seem like flames against those dark tree limbs. The walkway is nicely placed and the scene has great depth. Perhaps you could have put your D200 on timer and pretended to be the person walking down the lane :)

Hi Alvin,
I see you're trying to compensate for Norbert's absence by posting koyo pictures this fall, well the colors are very attractive here, and I like the fact the greens and the warms are mixing in various parts of the frame.

Nice vivid autumn colors in this one, Alvin. Good autumnal mood enhanced by the fallen leaves along the diagonal path. Except for the small stone lanterns, I would not have guessed this to be a Japanese Garden as this section looks more like an "ordinary" western-style park.

like a painter's palette, beautiful mix of colours, thos bits of still very green against the warmer shades, a pleasure to the eyes that can wander, nice inviting composition to a stroll...I love it.

The path is a strong leading line with a nice curve to it and the colours are beautifully handled. It looks like a cloudy day (hey its Vancouver)which helps to display the colour. Well done Alvin.

Alvin, my first impression seeing these image was certainly the same as everyone else that looked into it: WOW. Not only the colors are popping but also the composition with the bending trail is superb. Breaking the law is sometimes rewarding, right?! However, the longer I look into the image I'm getting somewhat disturbed by the blueish hue. Probably using a different white contrast could improve that.

Terrific colors and beautiful depth on this photo! I would have jumped the fence too for this kind of shots. I remember this garden very well. I used to walk around here and show it to people visiting Vancouver. Those trees are magnificent!

You must be wondering what I was doing, all these days, actually I was a bit busy but my wife underwent a major operation ( Hip replacement) and it simply upset my daily routine .

I will jump any fence to get a picture like this one.
So many colors avalaible at the same time, it is almost unbelievable.
I remember the park, but it was in August.Walking there was like being somewhere else.
You choose a good compo.,as we are in the path, walking towards the spectacle, and those leaves in the path adding more colors,,,splendid.

This is one of the best autumn colours images that I have seen on TE for quite a while, Alvin - just superb. There is so much detail and colour in this that it more than makes up for the absence of a person on the path (which in this instance may have even detracted from beauty of this shot - unless you could find a beautiful person too!) Glad you didn't get arrested for jumping the fence - it was certainly worth the effort. I note that a few have commented on the bluish light - but that doesn't disturb me because I assume you took this late in the day when the light can take on a bluish cast. Great work! Cheers . . .
