Photographer's Note
The Marblehead Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in continuous operation on the Great Lakes. Originally known as the Sandusky Bay Light Station, the lighthouse was built here in 1821 to aid navigation and prevent shipwrecks. William Kelly (1779-1867) received the contract and using local limestone completed construction in eight weeks. The lighthouse was 50 feet (15.2 m) high and had a diameter of 25 (7.6 m) feet at the base and 12 (3.6 m) feet at the top. When the lighthouse had a keeper, the beacon was updated with ever brighter lights and more powerful lenses. At the turn of the 19th century the watch room and the new lantern room were added increasing the lighthouse's high 15 feet. Beacons were lit with whale oil, lard oil, kerosene and then in 1923 with electricity. As of 2018 the light is an LED that is visible up to eleven nautical miles.

Hello Zbigniew,
Lighthouses are fascinating, always a different design, different shapes, different colours and made from a variety of materials. And their history is interesting as the fuel for the light has altered through the ages as you note.
I never thought before that the Great Lakes might need a lighthouse.
Good shot, thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hello Zbigniew,
I like to see lighthouses up close, like this, because it reveals their imposing nature and sense of power! To have built this in eight weeks was a remarkable achievement!
Your composition is excellent, anchoring the f/g with the informative sign, and having a useful lead line to the focal lighthouse.
The figures are hugely important to reveal the scale.
The exposure is spot on, showing us details which are sharp and colours which are natural.
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello Zbigniew,
A wonderful view of this white lighthouse with some very attractive red parts and some window framed by bricks. The composition is excellent with the trees and the sign well included around the pleasantly lit tower.

Hello Zbigniew,
The man in the red shirt contrasts well with the blue sea at left. Good sharpness and a fine upward pov on the church. Punchy light contrasts and well framed and composed. Tfs!
