Photographer's Note

As we approach the end of April, Spring finally decided to make its entrance around here too. After an almost week-long rainstorm when most of the time the temperature was hovering around 5C or so, last weekend and the beginning of this week were superb, weather-wise. The warm temperatures, which reached as high as 28C (low eighties F), made the nature change its gray coat with a green one. Although the woods are not yet fully green this change is very much apparent everywhere one looks.

Last night, coming back from work, I noticed lots of trees were blooming. I tried to take some pictures of those fragile flowers but the cloudy weather (i.e. low light) and the wind made that impossible since the long exposure made me lose the sharpness in those shots. They came out quite blurry.

Tonight I left work earlier and managed to snap a few good shots of those delicate flowers. Earlier today it had rained and the leaves and flowers were still carrying few tiny droplets of water on their skin or petals. As I was moving my camera within inches of these flowers I could see the fragility of my subject.

When we look at the beauty of our world we often find ourselves appreciating certain things for being delicate or fragile, for being there for a moment and then vanishing forever. We cherish so much these ephemeral events, elements or aspects of our daily lives... Tonight I didn't stop trying till I managed to get a few good shots of flowers with dew drops hanging on their petals. This is one of these shots. I attempted to capture the delicate aspect, the fragility, of the subject. I tried to capture something that seemed to vanish almost every single time I was approaching it. I was getting my camera through the branches, the wet flowers and leaves to about 10cm or so of the flower I wanted to shoot. I was focusing on it and then I was moving the camera to compose the image. All this hustle was usually shaking off the dew but in a few such shots I manged to be gentle enough and capture almost exactly what I wanted.

I like this and hope you'll like it too. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

PS I dedicate this shot to my friend Patricia.
