Mickey Mouse is tired

After refurbishing my studio attic (painting, new floor etc) it is high time for a new TE presentation from New York.
Walking 7th street in a northerly direction we automatically arrived at Times Square and were surrounded by Costumed Characters, one of the specialties of Times Square.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Hello Kitty, Cookie Monster, Lady Liberty, Spiderman, Batman, Elmo, Mario, Buzz Lightyear and Woody from Toy Story and many other characters walk around to let you take for a fee a photo together with you or with your kids. The children are of course their special targets. Occasionally there are also malicious cartoon characters who intimidate tourists and try to steal their money. There are various stories on the internet about the arrests of a number of cartoon characters.
To keep the nuisance by the cartoon figures under control, the city has created activity zones, restricting costumed characters who seek tips to designated areas.

I followed for a moment the activities of one of the Mickey Mouse characters.

Hi Rob. Welcome back after the renovation of your studio, a job that is always heavy and annoying, especially painting the walls. En attendant, j'ai bien aim� l'ensemble des prises de vue, un peu de repos est bien normal, car les personnes sous le costume ne sont pas de prime jeunesse a priori !

Hello Rob,
Your trio of photos shows a hard day in the life of a Times Square Mickey Mouse. I am a bit more amused by the Hawaiian Minion, though. :-) Times Square is a bizarre place, and I'm glad the characters have their own zones now. You managed to get three free shots of Mickey Mouse, so good job! :-)

Maar goed dat je weer een foto post, Gert vroeg me vanmorgen al of je op reis was. Een mooie impressie uit New York met deze twee entertainers, Times Square is een mooi decor ook. Het is ook niet niks, in de zomerhitte in zo'n pak rond te moeten lopen.

Hello Rob, I was worried that you were so inactive recently. I am glad that it was just the refurbishing work and we will see more photos from NYC. An interesting event in Times Square. It must be a great attraction for children and also for adult photographers. Amusing pictures.

It was a good idea to follow Mickey Mouse around for a while. The three photos tell us a little story. Although they are all amusing in a way and give us a great view of the colourful crowds, mixed with a bit of American vulgarity, they make me feel rather sad. What kind of a dreadful job is that for a middle aged man? But what a fantastic place for taking street photos. So much to watch.

I used to watch Mickey Mouse as a child, but never got into the mid 2000's one eyed character in the fg. They came out when I was in South Korea. We have a theme park on the Gold coast south of Brisbane where you can see such live characters. Tfs!

My first recognition was the Minion!
But that lead to the sad, exhausted Micky!
Your main photograph conjures up the boisterous atmosphere of Times Square! There is so much to see, people, characters, signs, buildings, vehicles, all vying for attention!

Hello Rob, three pictures that tell a short story; it can't be easy walking around every day wearing these outfits.
I like that you have included the sign telling people that if they have a photo taken with one of the characters, you are expected to give them a tip.
Colourful scenes, they give us a real flavour of the busy street.

Do they take these malicious characters costumed to the prison? It must be a quite curious scene! And the colorful view of the square is great, it makes the composition very attractive! I especially like this Minion in the foreground! Very nice job!

Anything is good to make money, I suppose ! But thinking about it, it痴 not really an enviable job in my opinion.
You describe it very well in your little series about this tired man taking a break from the stuffy atmosphere under his mask.

When I see these Costumed Characters, I often wondered if I was attracted to them when I was a child - and now i'm wondering what character would it have been in the early 1980's...hmmmm, other than the usual Mickey Mouse etc...I also wonder how hot it must get inside these costumes in the summer. The WS photos are more amusing :) I like them. Sadly though, I think places like Vegas and NYC would be better off without these guys...but hey that's just me and I'm not a child either haha. fun posts

Waarschijnlijk vertrouwde toestanden voor de NYC-bezoeker. Mijn eerste idee over dit circus was dat het in Las Vegas was.
Tja ... ik ken de US niet.
Loopt er daar ook niet een lichtgeklede cowboy met gitaar rond?
Je foto's maken de sfeer op Times Square wel duidelijk.

Rob, the costumed characters work now in a restricted area. Times square attracts thousands of tourists then they enjoy the place fame to solicit a maximum of people. Original alternative job developed in the Us. They target the families with children to take a photo with them and earn some money. Informative report
