Stop Guns
It is difficult to choose the last three murals for this series.
There are so many photos to choose from.
The variation of graffiti and murals in the Bowery is almost infinite. Many different styles, many different quality, many different messages made by unknown scribbles or world famous artists.
Three different messages from two well-known and one unknown artist.
■ Picture 1: ◄ Political message ►
Eduardo Kobra is one of the best known mural painters. You can find his work anywhere in the world. In New York alone you can admire 18 large murals of him. He often portrays a famous person and often his work has a political message, such as his work "Stop Guns" on the corner of Stanton Street and Eldridge street.
■ Picture 2: ◄ Educational message ►
The expiration date of a mural is hard to determine. The mural by Kobra is painted over another well-known mural. The longstanding mural for the Missbehave boutique painted by Mike Giant adorned this place for many years.
Under "Stop Guns" at street level you can see another wall painting that I think is much older. I could find little information about it. This particular mural is part of an outreach program that shows kids how street art can be constructive, not destructive. Maybe it is still there to respect the message and the high quality of the mural.
■ Picture 3: ◄ Commercial message ►
Here we see a mural by New York City artist Timothy Goodman.
We can read: 滴ERE'S A TOAST FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HARD, FAIL HARD, SHOW THEIR FLAWS, AND ARE ALWAYS DOWN FOR A BEER IN A BAR. The mural is part of Elysian Brewing Company campaign to show that craft breweries are as creative as independent street artists.
Goodman says it's "a toast to those who go through the ups and downs of life unapologetically with passion and conviction."

Hallo Rob,
Ik heb ook wel naar deze muurschildering gekeken of ik hem zou posten. Zowel de boodschap is heel sterk als ook de felle kleuren die van het scherm afspatten. Zeker ook in dit heldere New Yorkse zomerlicht.

Hallo Rob,
Good color and saturation with the harlequin patterns. I really do not understand why Americans are so passionate about guns. The Wild West days are long gone. Even many ordinary Americans believe that nothing will be done about the shocking 30,000+ deaths a year in the USA from gunshot wounds, until a prominent politician and or their family are slain by yet another psychopath who should never have been allowed to purchase a gun in the first place. Tfs!

Hi Rob. There is indeed a great selection of murals as I am reading in your notes, and it is certainly not easy to choose. This time you chose the "message" as a theme. Different artists and themes, and even different periods by observing the older one in the WS. The main post is really artistic, it looks like a photograph so much is real and clear in the details. The bright yellow message is also really attractive, there are also many craft breweries here, but I think that no one has ever had the idea of associating them with art. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Rob,
Again you make it hard for us to select a favourite among the three photos. The brightest, and most important, is this photo with a political message. But I'm afraid nobody will care in that strange country where the NRA claims that the more guns people have, the safer the country will be. (If every kid is armed no other kid will have time to kill more than a handful). But is it a regular mural? It looks like a huge canvas hanging from the roof. The beer message is the graphically most interesting and possibly the most original painting. I appreciate that you documented them all to show to us.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Rob,
The different colours of t-shirt is an eye-catcher. The point of view is showing the details of the mural with a political message. It may be considered a fake new by the President. The sharpness is very good. Have a nice day.

Mooi trio van boodschappen, Rob. De educatieve muur onderaan je hoofdfoto (pic2) is mijn persoonlijke favoriet, maar misschien is dat beroepsmisvorming.

Hello Rob,
I love all three murals. :-) The two in the school parking lot are still there, but the beer ad had been replaced with something new. Yesterday I took a walk to photograph another Kobra mural, and maybe I'll post a photo of it. This main mural has so many realistic details; I especially like the braces on the boy's teeth. Kobra's signature colors are vibrant and beautiful as usual.

Hello Rob, three exciting artworks; we can稚 really call these graffiti can we?
The main post is incredible, the many coloured sweater is quite 3 dimensional, how did he get the effect of the folds in the fabric? What skill!
The faces below are painted beautifully, using such a variety of colours.
And the commercial message stands out in the yellow lettering. The man in his contrasting shirt came along at just the right time for you.
Excellent work.
Kind regards
Jean.

Hi Rob
Sadly, Americans will never ever put restrictions on fire arms, they strongly believe its their RIGHT - I guess its their right to kill other people as they choose. This is a deep rooted belief system in the country, and its also quite political with the support and power of the NRA. Its not a simple and easy fix. It doesn't matter if the rest of the world disagrees, they do what they want. This is a powerful mural on the building, great for a TE post for sure. The WS photos too, so many good ones. cheers

Hello Rob,
This is street art of high quality, very well photographed and presented by you.
You have shown a whole range of different styles.
I like your main choice which begins with a sort of colourful frivolity but then, the reality hits home!
I do, in fact, like all your choices, very different but all with a message.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Rob, the main picture represents a multicolor young boy taking a selfie with a gun in his hands. He is a counterexample to not follow. The message "stop guns" is written on the mural above of him. The grafitti aim is to stop violence.

Hallo Rob,
Dus toch heel verrassend.
Wat het recht om een wapen te dragen: Ik weet dat dit niet in elke staat van de US het geval is. Kan je in NYC gewapende mensen zien? Tot zover nog niet op foto's op deze site, indien ik me goed herinner.
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello, Rob!
Eduardo Kobra is undoubtedly my favorite mural painter. His paintings are amazing, beautiful and some bring good messages, as this. Unfortunately, I never took a photo of one of his paintings. Photo amazing, the colours are beautiful and the light is marvelous, as the framework.
I liked it, my friend!

I liked the three samples of murals, each one in a style.the kobra mural is more creative this way making a parallel between the selfie and the guns.
take care
