Photographer's Note
Oculus Reflections
Time to return to New York to complete the 2018 travelogue.
The World Trade Center Transportation Hub, better known as the Oculus, is undoubtedly one of the most photographed buildings in the world and it is certainly the building that I have taken the most photos of. Hundreds were added in 2018 because during our visit to NY we passed the Path station twice a day and the circumstances kept changing. Morning light-evening light, busy-less busy and there are always a new POV痴 to discover.
The theme of this series is REFLECTIONS
■ Picture 1: ◄ Graphic reflection. ►
I chose this photo as the main photo because of the serene graphic, semi-abstract image.
The reflecting surface is divided into a number of rectangles of different sizes. At the bottom the white Phoenix rises from the darkness of the earth. At the top left some red light shines through the glass. In the distance, the silhouette of a building with a green roof looming out of the blue sky. The American flag completes the composition.
■ Picture 2: ◄ Curious reflection ►
Yellow dominates in this confusing composition that is made up of different layers. The photo was taken from the outside to the inside though the semi-reflective glass of the side wall.
We see the floor of the large hall where several people walk. The vertical Oculus construction that we see is the facade on the other side of the hall. The transparent mirroring creates the confusion and brings the abstraction into the picture. On the left we see the photographer. Great because it is fairly close to the glass. Lars is standing next to him. Much smaller because he is further back. There is a car in front of the bright yellow of the mural. Above that the reflection of the buildings on the other side of the square. The bright sunlight intensifies the yellow colour.
■ Picture 3: ◄ Traditional reflection►
The most traditional photo of the three. The facade of the Hilton with the reflection of the main entrance of the Oculus will have been photographed by many.
Here the interaction of the mirror and the audience is the main subject of the photo.
A number of people look at or photograph the building that we see behind their backs as if they are looking in the wrong direction.
The best way to view the pictures is to use the links above.

Hallo Rob,

Hello Rob,
Three highly entertaining photos of which the main upload could be regarded as the most artistic and #2 the most amusing. You have proven once again how the Oculus and its immediate surroundings offer unlimited photo opportunities. I love the blue and yellow and orange of #2. You say that Lars is much smaller than you, but I think he looks like a giant among the small people we see on the floor. The seem to be standing on the same level.
Have a nice Sunday,
Gert

Hi Rob,
You are a specialist of capturing reflections. The point of view is showing the details of the Occulus reflections on the windows. The light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Dag Rob,
Het zijn drie mooie foto's
De veel kleurige maakt het meeste indruk.
Maar ze zijn allemaal van een goede kwaliteit.
Mooi foto werk, bedankt.

Fantastic series of photos of reflections, WS 2 is particularly interesting with many layers: the real world behind the glass, your reflection and colorful reflections of the street and buildings, excellent photos

Dag Rob
Mooie verzamel met reflecties. De stars'n'stripes is perfect geplaatst in de hoofdfoto en een sterke aanwezigheid, ook vangt ze weinig licht. Misschien is dat symbolisch...

Hello Rob,
I visited the Oculus again last week, and it's nice to see some more views from your visit last year. I really like the traditional view in the WS, but all three photos are great. In the main photo, the blue sky fills in a lot of the large windows, and creates a lovely background. The art sheds outside are all still there, with the same art on them.

Hello Rob,
This is an amazing building that so many different, attractive views can be captured without repetition!
I agree with you, regarding your main choice.
It has extremely pleasing, flowing lines. It is partially abstract so that viewers can add their own interpretations, fish gill, a flying saucer, as well as the things that you recognised!
All are very good and could easily have been used for a main post!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Rob, I am sure that Oculus offers infinitely many photo possibilities, of its own shapes and of reflected objects. Artistic pictures. My favourite is the Workshop photo with yellow.
Kind regards Malgo

Hi Rob
I see that WS 2 gives us a really good idea what we're looking at here, in the main post is much more abstract. I agree with you, there are so many photo opps here, and I wish I could have an unlimited time frame to just keep shooting :) all these shots are creative and fun, all have something just a little bit different to offer us viewers. funky shots, I enjoyed them all. cheers
