Photographer's Note

鏑ittle Ukraine is an area in the Manhattan neighborhood of the East Village that dates as far back as the late 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the population really started to grow, and, after World War II, the population of Ukrainians in the area reached 60,000. Today the area still has some Ukrainian stores, restaurants, and cultural spots, but the Ukrainian population has dropped. Still, the area currently houses nearly a third of New York City's Ukrainian population.

Last week I took a walk in 鏑ittle Ukraine, and I took photos of some of the Ukrainian businesses, as well as the recent art that has been popping up in the neighborhood. After seeing Malgo痴 post with a lovely mural from Warsaw, I thought I壇 share a couple of examples from here in NYC.

Please see the second photo in the WS.

May there be peace in Ukraine in the very near future
