Photographer's Note
Masked wrestlers ("Luchadores Enmascarados") are a fascinating piece of Mexican culture. Besides performing their athletic choreographed "wrestling" melodramas in the ring, they have starred in strings of movies for fifty or sixty years. (A cultural parallel in the United States may be Elvis movies.) The heroes are never without their masks; out of the ring, they wear nice suits; they are consummate gentlemen and, out of respect, no one ever says, "Hey, you have a mask on!" They protect the weak, solve crimes, and beat up bad guys. The greatest of them all was "El Santo." If you get a chance to see a Santo movie, grab some popcorn and enjoy!
Austin, apparently, has its own superhero, and he drives a silver Corvette.

wow! what a charismatic guy!
and this time, the focus on every element is so good, we have enough of everything: the cityscape in blur, the silver corvette evident enough to tell that it is a silver corvette, and the captivating essence of it: hero's gaze behind his mask, that eye contact is already the detail that made me "wow" tonight. i cannot find anything to say more (some slight make up still in the WS, what do you think?)
last weekend i watched iron man3, and yesterday superman... from deep inside, everybody wants to have a hero. that uneasy feeling of inequalties in this world makes us think so. would love to have a real one right now in turkey. why don't you send him here? :)

Hello Russ,
Very interesting capture! Was this guy just stopped at a light and wearing a mask, or was there something going on like a commercial being filmed?? Either way, I like the composition. The silver mask and silver Corvette match perfectly, there is a nicely-blurred background, and the crop is very effective. It's a fun and different photo. :-)

Hi Russ,
Oh man, this is a great shot...what a look, what a capture! The first thing that came to mind was "Nacho Libre??" :) These are the kinds of moments that just can't go undocumented, this says so much from a simple photo. I don't mean 'simple' in the manner that it's no more than a snapshot, just that it's a masked man in a car...let your imagination run wild from there! Love the depth of field, the blurred city backdrop gives this a cinematic feeling, perhaps the opening sequence of our superhero about to spring into action...staring intently at his counterpart. Very well done, thanks for sharing this fun little gem. Have a great evening.
All the best,
Jason

To my dearest Evil Anti-Trust Twin
This is so funny. I'm writing my critique at a coffee shop over lunch and nearly spat coffee everywhere I was laughing so hard. The people at the next table think I'm insane. But the old Greek guy who owns the shop and knows me...and that I'm a little insane :)
The quality of the photo is exceptional, as no doubt you've had to react quickly, and he was on the move. But it is the moment that you have captured that is precious. And hilarious. I love the silver tones and your note cracked me up. A real corker this photo, congrats!
When I win the lottery, this superhero has inspired me to don a mask and drive a corvette, whilst eating Italian cannoli.
Cheers

Hi Russ
now this is an extremely odd scene!
I think we could see 1000 photos on TE and not come across another one like your shot here.
In the heat of Texas, I can only imagine how hot this fella must be.
cool shot, unique and funny.
cheers

he looks like he came off the set of batman or dr who!
i love how you picked up the passenger side view mirror ~ an additional intriguing surface.
what a terrific study in silvers, blacks, golds, and attitude.
nice one, russ!

Hi Russ,
Now this is an unusual scene, not the type of thing I normally (or ever) see. It must make for a great interest to see a superhero driving round like this. What makes it really odd to me is the fact that he is wearing a suit and tie and looks for all intents and purposes like a business man. Except of course for the mask. Great depth of field in this highlights your subject perfectly and a fascinating note.
Cheers

Hi, Russ,
You remind me my old idea, what could say the road policemen if I drive my car with a mask?
It's really looks like a movie scene.
I can't agree with you about a superhero for my hometown.)) better to see them from distance.
Best wishes,
Serghei
