Photographer's Note

Stand-up paddle boards have become all the rage. Here, three Muses -- Sirens, perhaps? -- ply the waters of Lady Bird Lake in Austin.

Lady Bird Lake is named for Lady Bird Johnson, the wife of President Lyndon Johnson. During her lifetime she discouraged the idea of naming the lake for her and the lake -- actually a constant-level portion of the Lower Colorado River formed by the Longhorn Dam -- was known as Town Lake.

Mrs. Johnson -- who led many environmental efforts when the movement was new -- lived to the ripe age of 94. Upon her passing, the Austin City Council promptly renamed the lake in her honor.
