A curling stone staircase from the trail below the Grand Canyon Lodge enticed me upward. At its top I found a room within the stone foundation of the Lodge. Two barren windows framed the Canyon's water-carved formations and I could imagine staying there for hours photographing the play of light and shadow across and within the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon Lodge is located within Grand Canyon National Park and is the sole hotel on the North Rim of the canyon. It's normally open from May 15th until October 15th each year depending on when the road leading to it is open end closed due to snow.
