Desert View Watchtower, also known as the Indian Watchtower at Desert View, is a 70-foot (21 m)-high stone building located on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon within Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, United States. The tower is located at Desert View, more than 20 miles (32 km) to the east of the main developed area at Grand Canyon Village, toward the east entrance to the park. The four-story structure, completed in 1932, was designed by American architect Mary Colter.
The watchtower was the last of the series of Mary Colter-designed visitor concession structures at the Grand Canyon until her renovation of the Bright Angel Lodge in 1935. The tower was designed to resemble an Ancestral Puebloan watchtower, but its size dwarfs any known Pueblan-built tower.

Well exposed and captured this interesting watchtower. The view must be incredible from the top, but I don't think you can visit inside, so we"ll have to make do with the rim which we can see on the right hand side.

cześc Janusz, ładny widok na tę strażniczą wieżę nad Wielkim Kanionem. Dla mnie było zaskakujące, ze nagle kanion wyłania się z całkiem płaskiego terenu. Mozna bylo byc dosłownie kilkanascie metr od krawędzi i nie zdawać sobie z tego sprawy. To widac kanion po prawej stronie. Ładne te sosenki.

Hello Janusz,
The watchtower is very nicely designed, and I guess that the surrounding buildings were deliberately built to look like ruins. I think very similar structures could also be found in northern Africa or the Middle East. The colours and light are very good, and you balanced the photo well. We get a small but impressive view of the Grand Canyon on the side.

It certainly looks older than what it is. Fun surprise to read it was purposefully built to look more historic. Lovely lookout place, and we can just see a glimpse of the Grand Canyon.

Hello Janusz,
Good presentation of this watchtower with a view of the canyon on the right side and with some trees in between.
The tower has been built in 1932 but it looks more ancient.
The many little white clouds make a great backdrop.
Good composition and sharpness.

the clouds are making a strong visual impact too, they add a lot to the overall look of the shot. Cool main subject too, gotta love WatchTowers. the contrasting browns and blues work well together, nice one
