Photographer's Note
Continuing hiking up the main channel of Cathedral Wash in my quest to reach and circumnavigate a massive spire of rock just in front of the Vermilion Cliffs I found my way blocked by these boulders drinking from a muddy pool. It's times like these when I need a hiking companion (or a trusty tripod) to provide a sense of scale as the top of the front boulder is about 20 feet above the pool. Their position and steep angle as well as the soft sucking mud edging the pool ended my quest. Time to turn and return to my Jeep.

The photo was cropped, shadows generally lightened, and the pool's contrast and exposure then adjusted separately.

Hi Mark,
Amazing view of this canyon. As you mention in your note it is almost impossible to estimate the scale of this view of rocks and clay, void of vegetation. Good contrasty view.
