Photographer's Note
Atop Indian Mesa the ruins of the ancient Native American village litter the western end. As this photo shows, the village is in a superb defensive position. Access to the top of the mesa is via a narrow cut in the rock just wide enough for single file climbing. The walls in front and alongside that route had arrow/spear holes allowing the protected defenders to fend off anyone they didn't want entering the village.
