Photographer's Note
In a land so devoid of soil and water, an area of sand, rock, and empty sky, it's amazing that life exists at all. The remnants of the foreground tree show that, even in the harshest of environments it's possible to grow to substantial size. And, in the background, new trees are taking its place, the cycle of life and death continuing.
Taken in White Pocket, a section of the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument.
